I usually have some response if I tweet the company who cold calls (eg Abel and Cole, charity chuggers who INSIST on calling after 5pm - 5-7pm is bedtime routine and then I'm not interested in opening the door to uninvited people once the kids are in bed, LoveFilm who had a run of being really aggressive and apparently "funny" with their approach - I'm a Christian and was appalled when I opened the door and was asked, Can I talk to you about the Bible and then, oh, just joking, I'm from LoveFilm) - but that doesn't work with the sponge sellers :(

I simply don't answer the door. If I don't know who is knocking I don't answer. I have been abused by these idiots on more than one ocassion and now I just don't answer. We saw them out on a Saturday night recently as we were leaving our home with our babysitter looking after our children and called her and told her not to answer. All for a no cold calling zone. And no bouncy clipboard people blocking your way in the street either or knocking on your door!

We were visited by a horribly aggressive Abel & Cole salesman last week. He put a foot up by the the door to stop me closing it despite the crying baby in the background. I was actually quite upset by the whole thing.

I know some areas of Lambeth are 'no cold call zones'. Is this something Wandsworth do?

...err.... just get a sign saying 'no sellers' and put it next to your doorbell...?

Aggressive cold callers

It must be summer again as the aggressive cold callers are back!

My husband (who takes alot of pushing to get wound up) had to threaten to call the police to remove a 'sponge seller' from our doorstep this evening. He simply wouldn't take 'no' for an answer and his parting comment was that he would 'headbutt' him if he saw my husband out locally.

Ive seen previous posts debating whether these sellers are genuine or 'scammers' and whilst my sympathy goes out to the former, I feel strongly that no one should get threatened on their own doorstep! There are other members of the community who may have felt intimidated enough to be compelled to buy something they did not need and perhaps could not afford.

Does anyone know of a way of deterring these types of sellers from the area?
