It's not exactly next door, to be honest. This happened at the Thrale Road end of Penwortham, and the incident last summer was at the corner of Welham and Gorse Rise - nearly a mile apart!

It is, otherwise, a good and safe neighbourhood, with a great community spirit.

I just wish people would get the facts right. I've seen it reported as being 50 yards from Sadiq Khan's house, which is also not correct. It's more like 1/4 of a mile to the road where Sadiq lives.

The incident occurred yesterday between 3 p.m. and 3.45 p.m. at junction of Thrale Road and Penwortham Road, just down the road from Penwortham Primary School. The 20 year old man killed was a former pupil at Graveney school.

A local resident has been quoted in the media as saying "Things like this don't happen around here." However, the location of yesterday's incident is just one street away from Welham Road where an incident last summer involved a 75-year-old man killed by being run over and two other men being stabbed. Is it time for the government to end the political correctness that has tied the Met's hands on stop-and-search and that has resulted in a significant increase in stabbings in south London in the past two years?
