I agree. I don't see the point of posts like this.

these kind of posts always create an instinctive reaction but if you are confident in your nanny it shouldn't ring any alarm bells. Not sure how helpful this kind of post is though?

I think it makes a huge difference whether it was the mother or the nanny.

Either way, it's not nice for the child, but if it was the mother, then it's no-one's business how she disciplines her own child. However, if it was the nanny then it is someone elses business, i.e. the parents' business.

I think the original post was just trying to warn the parents which is fair enough.

It's very easy to judge a situation without really knowing the background. I'm sure we've all had times when we've reprimanded our children for something and then regretted it later. Who knows what the situation was with this person and the children? If it had been the mother (which it may well have been) would that make it different? Or should social services be told?!

Have to say that experience (over 10 years) and exceptional references (maybe fake) are not a guarantee of a good and caring nanny. Had the worst experience of my life with a mature and experienced nanny who turned up to think only about herself and being rough and not caring with children. Some people just pretend to love children and make it just for the money as they think it's easier than any other job. Parents need to be lucky as I am sure there are a lot of nice nannies around. But some of them are so bad that they can really turn out being evil.

I agree with the last post, i'm afraid. I paid over the odds for a "mature English nanny with over 10 years experience", and what i got was the worst experience one could ever imagine. Now i have a filipino nanny (thankfully from the same agency so i didn't have to double up on fees) and she is my (and my daughter's) angel!

Nannyjo: wow, a little judgemental don't you think? Regardless of pay a lower paid nanny does not have the right to humiliate a child.

Do you really think that higher paid nannies automatically equate to better childcare? Silly really, I think the moral lies within the person to either treat children with kindness and humility or anger and impatience, regardless of pay. Some parents cannot afford to pay high wages. Believe it or not they still care a whole lot about how their children are treated, enough said!

I expect that nanny was hired because she was cheap and the parents were more than willing to hire someone who doesn't demand much money... and the results? someone who isn't professional and clearly doesn't have much in the way of childcare skills. If you pay peanuts you get monkeys... enough said

As a nanny myself, I see alot of bad practice.
I make them fully aware that they disgust me and there not doing there job correctly.
I think its disgusting that parents leave the most precious thing in the world and other people mistreat their children, its lot more common than most parents think and it makes me sick!

I was at the Battersea Zoo sand pit today and witnessed a nanny reprimanding a little girl because she had weed in her pants. The little girl was obviously potty training and the nanny was embarrassing her repeatedly about what had happened. It made me wonder whether this poor little girl's mum knew what was going on... If this sounds like it could have been your nanny/LO I'm happy to provide more details. Might be time for a serious chat or a new nanny!
