I hear that Winterville is intending to come to Clapham Common again this coming winter, but as far as I can see the damage to the common from last year is
still not sorted out - there are large bare patches only a few of which have some wispy little grass plants trying to grow. And for months after Winterville left in January the area had to be fenced off in order to try to level out the ruts and then reseed when the weather got warmer. I've attached two photos that I took when Winterville left the site which might remind you how bad it was. What sort of state will it be in after a second winter?
Its a complete nonsense having such a long and big event on the grass at a time of year when it is so easily churned up and trashed, and totally unacceptable to fence off the bulk of the best open space (that isn't marked out into football pitches) either for the event (Nov-early Jan) or for essential recovery (Jan-May) for half of the year. And that is without taking into account all the other events including two huge music festivals which are yet to happen. Clapham Common should be for everyone to use, not just for commercial events to raise money for Lambeth Council (which still stands to make a loss on its events operations despite these major events on the Common).
I've come across a lady who has started an online petition to stop Winterville coming back unless is returns to the circus area which has a hard surface so won't be damaged. Do sign it if you agree with me, it will only take a minute. This is the link:

Lets try to head this off before it gets to a planning application!!
