Re: Jane Ellison is out

papinian, you always seem to have A LOT to say (though where you find the time is beyond me or perhaps this might actually be part of your day job....?)

Have you ever considered standing up and coming out from behind the screen and standing on a soapbox in public yourself?

Re: What area for first time buyers?

West Norwood is really up and coming. Train links via overland to London Bridge, Victoria and Balham and Tulse Hill is just a walk away. It's got a great vibe with an ever increasing bar/restaurant/cafe scene and there's also plans to build a Picturehouse. Anything close to Julians Primary School is...

Keep Tooting Bec Athletics Track Running.

I've just come across a campaign to keep Tooting Bec Athletics track running on Sadiq Khan's website and (just in case NV hasn't aleady picked up on it) thought I'd share with anyone interested in signing the petition: http://www.sadiqkhan.org.uk/keep_tooting_bec_athletics_track_running "Papers...

Re: Clearchannel blocking red route

To be fair caferacer, would you yourself want to work in the street at night next to a vanload of tools? Its kinda inviting trouble from the creatures of the night don't you think? In any case, as a road commuter myself I think this kind of annoyance is a small price to pay for the investment Clear ...

Hairdresser who is good with curls

Can anyone recommend a hairdresser who is good with curls? I say curly but it is more a frizzy messy beach hair look. I had fine straight hair all my life but it went curly during my last pregnancy. I desperately need someone who can not only advise on how to properly manage it, but who could also r...

Re: Good Writing Places?

I live in Balham but have found the best place is downstairs in the Clapham Common Cafe Nero. It has free WiFi and being downstairs means its fairly quiet and no one ever takes kids down there. They also have a covered outdoor space out the back. Whether they serve good coffee is up to you!

Re: What do you WISH you had discussed with your nanny upfro

Totally agree with Mum2Alex. I ended hiring the less experienced of the group based on her interaction with the children at the interview and the sense she clearly had a kind heart. I figured I could teach her about what I wanted done around the house on the job (I leave notes most mornings but also...

Re: How best to live with live-in nanny when home on mat lea

Given that kids ultimately determine schedules, rather than lay down any hard and fast rules why don't you just all roll with it and figure out what works best on a day to day basis? It's better for your nanny to know from the outset that things are going to be a bit in chaos for a while (as newborn...

Re: How do you split your parental responsibility ?

Rather than look for ways to avoid it or stop him going, why don't you go and watch them sometime? My husband plays cricket (though would prefer football at under 2 hours long!) and I find it's a great family day out, a good opportunity for the kids to play with others and for you to meet the other ...

Re: School holidays - divorced parents - advice?

Growing up I had divorced parents who at one stage lived in different countries, so holidays to see my father were always several weeks long, including a number when I was younger than 10. Regardless of how I felt about either parent there was no way I was going to miss out on a foreign holiday! My ...

Re: Grandsons hair too long - advice needed please !

Appreciating that everyone's relationships with their parents are different, I tend to find that most grandparents I know do things for their family out of love. So it alarms me that people would 'go nuts' at their parent over cutting a boy's fringe (I'm going to let you in on a little secret, hair ...

Re: Live in nanny and meal times

I wouldn't feel bad about it at all. We have a live-in nanny who eats with the children and it's never been an issue, nor has there been any suggestion she would like to eat with my husband and I. Don't forget she has free run of the house (and kids) all day and if I were her I'd want to relax in my...
