Re: State versus private - which provides best education?

Can I please disagree vigorously with the person who said that an Oxbridge/Ivy League education is wasted on staying at home with children? For what it's worth, I have an Oxbridge education, and I have been (mostly) at home with my children for the past six years. What could possibly be a better use...

Re: Fresh wave of Council Cuts

You really can't expect to have the lowest Council tax in the country, in one of the most expensive parts of the country, and great Council services. The Councillors genuinely believe that we, the voters, value low Council tax more highly than great public services. Maybe they are right. I find it q...

Leak detection

We have been advised that our low water pressure is probably caused by a pipe leaking into the ground under our basement. Rather than have someone chop bits out of all the walls to find it, I would like to use a leak detection specialist to locate the leak if possible. Has anyone used a service like...

Embroidery on nursery smock

Does anyone know of anyone who will embroider childrens' names on nursery smocks? I would like to have my daughter's name sewn onto her smock before she starts nursery, and I definitely don't have the skill to do it myself.

Many thanks in advance!

Re: Crossing guard hit by car?

We think it's going to be £12,000 over 18 months, compared to the Council's current budget of £198,000 p.a. (or just under £300,000 for 18 months).

Re: Crossing guard hit by car?

Hello everyone. Some of you may have seen the press coverage about Talk Talk's sponsorship of the crossing patrols. To clarify the deal, this is a short-term contract providing £12,000 of sponsorship to cover the costs of four patrollers for 12-18 months. All of the other patrollers will still be ma...

A big thank you to everyone who has signed our petition so far - almost 300 signatures in only three days! If you haven't signed it yet, but would like to lend your support to this vital service, please take one minute to sign at: There is a campaign to persuade the Council to reverse its decision. ...

Re: Crossing guard hit by car?

This sad incident highlights the dangers of the Council's decision to stop funding school crossing patrols (SCPs) as a cost-saving measure. Some of the crossing sites are far too dangerous to be unmanned, and the Council's suggestion that this essential service be funded by PTAs or provided by volun...

Save our lollipop ladies!

Wandsworth Council has decided to stop funding all school crossing patrols (SCPs) -our lollipop ladies! - as a cost-saving measure. The Council is suggesting that schools or parents fund them (at the expense of other activities) or, extraordinarily, that this essential service is provided by volunte...
