Re: Our primary school is 50 Min away!

Hello. I suspect we will be in the same position in a couple of years. Ridiculous when both schools are so close. I would suggest that you write directly to Honeywell and Belleville, as the Council says that it does not have any power to influence the admissions policy. How true this is I do not kno...

Re: 73% of parents were given their first primary school pre

Thanks for the update. It would be interesting to know how many got their first choice BTC, I suspect this figure will be very different...!

Re: Belleville catchment area

There has to be a priority area for BTC set up. It has been clear for a while that there is a blackspot for schools south of Broomwood Road but the lack of transparency with the "street-lit walking distance" meant it was hard to document. The straightline distance means it can now been eas...

Re: Recommend me a hypnobirthing course in sw11/sw12?

I can really recommend Gemma. My husband and I did a course with her in January 2011. She is a really lovely lady and has lots of good advice to share. Hypnobirthing really worked for me (though when I was at home being told by the hospital I had a long way to go as it was my first I had some doubts...

Re: Should sibling's rights be reduced for renters that move awa

I think that could be an interesting idea. As it least it may prevent the annual cycle of houses going on the rental market purely for the purposes of getting into the schools which then makes a mockery of the sibling system in future years.

Honeywell and Belleville Schools - other options BTC?

I have been following with interest the discussions on the catchment areas for Honeywell and Belleville since I became a mum recently. I live between Broomwood and Thurleigh Road (about 550m from Honeywell and 800m from Belleville). My next nearest schools are Alderbrook and Wix but they are over th...

Re: Should sibling's rights be reduced for renters that move awa

I couldn't agree more with you ellesmum. If temporarily renting is not playing the system I do not know what is. My little girl is not even one but I already know of people through nct & play group who are planning to rent when the time comes. Obviously sorting out this issue will not mean every...

Re: Should sibling's rights be reduced for renters that move awa

I agree that more school places are needed. The catchment for Honeywell is tiny given how many children there are around here. It is a shame they cannot go to four form entry from a numbers perspective. It would at least free up some non-sibling places.

Re: Should sibling's rights be reduced for renters that move awa

I had no idea that this was such an issue. I guess I had hoped it was a bit of a myth. I cannot believe so many people are actively planning to get their kids into school this way and furthermore they think it is ok. It does explain why there is such an issue. My concern is my little girl will not g...

Re: Should sibling's rights be reduced for renters that move awa

I do think the blame lies with the council for not providing enough places however the attitude of some people does amaze me. It makes me more determined that something needs to be done to stop this blatant playing of the system. Is this a problem that the schools themselves are concerned about / ha...

Re: Should sibling's rights be reduced for renters that move awa

I agree that a priority area for siblings would be a good idea. There is obviously nothing wrong with choosing to rent near a good school and making that your home. However, what is an issue is people taking a short lease simply to gain a place at a school then moving away a few months later (if the...

Re: Proposed change to school admission arrangements

I agree that it is important siblings go to the same school, however with 60+ of the 90 reception places at Honeywell being taken by siblings via the priority rule I think it is important that children who genuinely live on the school's doorstep are not losing out just because some people can afford...

Re: Belleville & Honeywell Distances

This is a topic close to my heart too. We are about 450m from Honeywell but over 800m from Belleville. It is a few years until we will be applying but I am already concerned that we will end up without a place at a nearby school. In the recent Belleville consultation they mentioned the lack of provi...
