Re: Man in playground with a laptop

I completely agree with everything you have just said, previous poster. The assessment of risk in this case, and the response, was completely excessive imho. I wonder why our generation of parents is so paranoid and so disproportionate in our response to 'threats', particularly those posed by men, ...

Re: Man in playground with a laptop

I would say the OP was there when none of us were so we can't say what she did was wrong. If she felt threatened or had a feeling something was wrong then why bash her for acting on it? ... For me personally if a man or woman is in the playground acting suspiciously I really wouldn't care about sta...

Re: Man in playground with a laptop

Is there really a by-law stating lone adults can't enter playgrounds? I have never heard of that. It depends on the council/area entirely. The thing about by-laws are, that they are not actually written in statute and so don't apply country wide or anything. Instead there is legislation which gives...

Re: Man in playground with a laptop

Hi, It is NOT strange or depressing to be concerned by some guy sitting in a fenced off children's playground alone without a child. It is actually a by-Law that an adult HAS to be accompanied by a child to be in a playground. It is mainly there to protect older unaccompanied children from being ta...

Re: Man in playground with a laptop

This is possibly the most depressing thing that I have ever read (OP). Have we become so paranoid that we think it is necessary to warn other parents and even call the police in response to a man sitting doing absolutely nothing? Is it unreasonable to think he was enjoying the fresh air? That the pa...

Re: 100% horsemeat - that's why we should shop local

@zaarin_2003 'bute' is not permitted in the human food chain. There are no medicinal quantities or permitted levels for humans. Don't shoot the messenger it's not my opinion it's what the BBC are reporting. As for the issue with eating horse I guess it's the nation's love of horses in recreational ...

Re: 100% horsemeat - that's why we should shop local

@juliantenniscoach Yes, but this report, the part you quote specifically, is clearly describing the risks associated with consuming or receiving medicinal quantities of phenylbutazone; not the actual risks associated with consuming the much lower quantities of the chemical which you might find in a ...

Re: 100% horsemeat - that's why we should shop local

@juliantenniscoach: I think this is the first time I've seen anyone mention the tranquilizers and their potential danger. As I understood from the FSA statements, there is no indication of any safety issue whatsoever - so I have assumed people have had no concerns in that regard. So why the sense of...

Re: 100% horsemeat - that's why we should shop local

Whilst the 'what it says is in the box, should be what's in the box' argument is valid, there is way more to it than that. Unless you've chosen to eat horsemeat in the past or would do so in the future, those who are saying they are objecting to the horsemeat in their food simply because the packagi...
