Re: Good colour for exterior of a terraced house?

It depends on the terrace.  I would hate the exterior of my house to be painted.  In my terrace one of the houses was painted pink - all the other houses are the original brick.  Fortunately, new owners have had the paint stripped and the brick work exposed.  The merit of a terrace is its overall un...

Re: How Can anyone vote Tory next week?

I have lived in Wandsworth for over 40 years.  I have seen the cuts to services and the social engineering carried out by the Tories in Wandsworth.  They have off loaded problems to other parts of the country, rather than taking responsibility.  They have cut services to young people.  They have cut...

Re: How Can anyone vote Tory next week?

I realise that in some parts of the borough people get a reasonable service from Wandsworth for low council tax.  However, that is not the case in those parts of the borough which are less open to public scrutiny.  My road is badly maintained (for some reason it is not allowing me to post a picture....

Re: SW11 car fines from a local cyclist's camera

I wonder if this cyclist is as respectful of pedestrians as he expects motorists to be of him.  A footpath opposite my house has 'no cycling' signs which are regularly ignored by cyclists.  As I have posted before, I was also hit on the head by a cyclist when going through a pedestrian entrance to S...

Re: Missing black and white cat - Earlsfield SW18 - please help!

She looks very much like one of mine and I wouldn't want someone to get your hopes up.  Mine is a neutered tom and he has managed to lose his collar.  I live near the roundabout by Wandsworth Bridge.

I do hope you have found her by now.

Re: SW11 car fines from a local cyclist's camera

This exchange has reminded me that, when I used to cycle from Battersea to Paddington, the nearest I came to an accident was when leaving Hyde Park on a green light and was very nearly hit by a cyclist going along Bayswater Road and going through a red light.  Lycra louts give all cyclists a bad nam...

Re: SW11 car fines from a local cyclist's camera

As an ex cyclist, I would have more sympathy for cyclists if I had not been hit on the head by a cyclist on a footpath and if, every day, I didn't see cyclists ignoring the 'no cycling' signs on the footpath opposite my house. When I see so many cyclists showing scant regard for pedestrians and the ...

Re: Foxes every night

You might feel sorry for the female foxes.  It is possible that the screaching is actually the female fox in pain.  Be grateful that humans do not have the same problem.  The male fox has barbs on his penis to hold it into the female.  This means that mating is painful for the female. It might also ...

Re: Advice on Hypoallergenic cats

How recently has your husband been tested?  I ask because I knew someone who told me she was allergic to cats - her family had got rid of the family cat when she was a child because she reacted badly to it.  However, as an adult, she would come round to my house with no ill effects and then went on ...

Re: The best cats for first time cat owners?

Over the last 50years I have had a series of cats.  One of my current 2 was found as a kitten running around in Fulham High Street - he is still a bit of an outdoor cat (I have a cat flap).  The other one was adopted from a friend as an adult.  I have previously adopted cats from Battersea Dogs and ...

Re: Has anyone succeeded in lobbying Wandsworth council to slow down traffic on their road?

"it wasn't registered to anyone " - how is that possible?  Does that mean that it was stolen from a car showroom.  Surely, the police should be investigating why a car, presumably with UK number plates, can be unregistered.

Re: The London Streetspace programme - Balham to Colliers Wood

A plea to cyclists: in many places there are perfectly adequate routes for cyclists which do not come into conflict with pavements and pedestrian routes.  Why is it then that so many cyclists still make life difficult and unpleasant for pedestrians?  If they showed more respect for pedestrians then ...

Re: Back to school?

A couple of comments.  I note that few of the comments consider the teachers and other school staff - all of whom may live with families of their own and would, therefore, be putting them at risk.  Many teachers live at quite a distance from their schools and will have to travel, possibly on public ...

Re: Coronavirus Supermarket Etiquette???

While talking in the street to a neighbour and keeping distance, 3 men crossed the road to walk within inches of the woman I was talking to.  The pavement on the other side was completely empty.  Another man pushed past me while I was queuing to pay in a local shop, again I was very obviously keepin...

Re: Looking for labradoodle breeder recommendation

Why a designer dog? Why not a Battersea dog? If we didn't have so many dog and cat breeders we wouldn't (possibly) need so many animal shelters for discarded animals. I don't have experience of dogs but the cats I have had from Battersea have more than repaid me
