Bay window shutters: 1:2:1 or 2:4:2

Hi. We are planning to have tier on tier shutters for our upvc bay windows. We are undecided between 1:2:1 or 2:4:2 configuration. The first allows more light but wouldn’t fold nicely if we decided to open them. I feel I would want to open the top tier occasionally to allow more light but am concern...

Re: Is tutoring a must

Just wanted to come back to this thread after a long while. Thought I'd share my experience. We've been through the 11+/Wandsworth test process and we're glad it's over. DD was offered places in 3 top indies as well as Graveney based on test. We are immensely proud of her. DD is bright and able, but...

Recommendation for English tutor

Hi.

I'm looking for an English tutor for my 7y old son to help with comprehension and creative writing. He is able in Maths but isn't a keen reader/writer. I know it is hard to change this even with tutoring, but worth a try.
Any recommendations are much appreciated. Thanks

Re: Alleyns or Jags for secondary school

Congrats on your DD's results. Our DD was also offered a place at JAGS, Alleyns and Putney high. She came from a state primary in SW11. It's very hard to make a decision, and realistically we can't make one before 1March. As for siblings, Mel01: are you sure siblings get an automatic place in Alleyn...

Replace damaged front path Victorian tiles

Hi. I am looking for a professional builder/contractor who can repair ( i.e., replace ) a few damaged Victorian tiles on my house front path. They got damaged during a delivery and so would like a written quote for repair which I can pass to the company's compensation team. Do you have any recommend...

Re: Is tutoring a must

Can't agree more Hollyheaven. I share the same view. Is your daughter happy at Graveney? I attended an open day last year. The results and reviews certainly look good and the children and parents appeared happy. I just felt it was too big, almost like a university campus, I worry my child could get ...

Re: Is tutoring a must

Thanks Kath, that's very helpful. I didn't know there are different exam boards for the VR and NVR by the way, so certainly I have still a lot to learn about the system. Totally agree about the fierce competition yes.

Re: What good state/grammars are accessible from SW11?

I don't debate the difficulty of getting in based on 11+ results and over-subscription of these schools. It's indeed tough to get a place. I am more interested in knowing about good schools that are within a sane commute distance for an 11-y old child from SW11, and grammars that have no catchment a...

What good state/grammars are accessible from SW11?

Could anyone please recommend good girls or mixed state schools ( including grammars ) accessible from Wandsworth/Clapham junction area? I pretty much know the independents ( Alleyns, JAGs, putney/wimbledon high, Emanuel ), and the local state such as Graveney, Bolingbroke ( good feedback but no res...

Re: Is tutoring a must

Really glad someone asked this question, which I have had in mind for a while now. Many thanks Vhopeful and thanks to all parents who replied. I have a daughter in Y5 in a state primary. I think she is bright and able, and so do her teachers. But her state school doesn't prepare the kids for 11+, es...
