Re: Daughter not talking yet

We had a similar situation with my daughter who is now two and a half. Six months ago she didn't have many words and wasn't really attempting to put words together into sentences. At her two year check the HV said they'd keep it under review and sure enough I got a call from a(nother) HV three month...

Re: Child's strabismus - recommended hospitals

I think it was £300 or so (though that was nearly two years ago). I'm sure they'd tell you on the phone. I just phoned the number on their website for their private children's clinic and got an appointment within a few days (actually I think I was offered one the next day but it was not convenient)....

Re: Child's strabismus - recommended hospitals

We paid for a private appt at Moorfields the first time as the wait felt too long for the NHS appts (my daughter was squinting quite badly at the time). I don't remember the name of the consultant we saw (I think it's the same whether private or NHS, but you can get an appt at a few days' notice rat...

Re: Mums? What about dads?

I think it's worth pointing out that a number of the responses on here have been from women posting after specifically being asked by Annabel for our views.

Re: Mums? What about dads?

As a full time working mother of two I am with pie81 and supergirl - and benaldo - in thinking that the way this site is branded perpetuates stereotypes. I appreciate that its demographic has probably evolved over time but perhaps its branding should catch up with that. Clearly it is very parent foc...

Re: Help my 7 year old can't get to sleep at night

Have you tried audio books? My daughter is younger but it worked really well to persuade her to stay in bed, lie quietly and "wait for sleep to come"!

Re: A to A* results for 2015 A Level

Careful re: Streatham and Clapham - the correct stat is "Nearly a quarter of the cohort achieved an A* or an A grade in every A Level subject that they took."

(I have no connection with the school by the way, just happened to notice when I clicked on the link!)

Re: Very part-time nursery?

Does anyone know if Lochinvar Playhouse is still open? They don't seem to have a website and I can't find any up to date info - and recall seeing some suggestion that they might be closing...

Fireplace inserts

Can anyone recommend a company that can advise on fireplace inserts? I am not even sure if that is the right term - we have a mantel and surround but only a fireback (?) rather than a cast iron grate. We don't especially want to actually light a fire in the fireplace but would like something more at...

Re: Interview with Wandsworth Council re. the One O Clock Cl

I am a working mother so would use the centres on a Saturday - either morning or afternoon. I'd be able and willing to pay to use the centres, but not everyone would and I wouldn't want people who would otherwise benefit from using the centres (possibly because they don't have family and friends in ...

Re: Ideas for weekend activities

Thanks all! Very helpful.

Mrs Contractor Mum - completely agree re: equality, or rather lack thereof...! Like yours, my husband's in charge for a couple of weekdays a week and he has the opposite problem to me, though I think he is going to go to Gymboree even if he's the only dad there.

Ideas for weekend activities

I would love to do more organised activities with my 10-month-old but work full-time so can only commit to these at the weekend. Sadly a lot of classes/organised activities only seem to run during the week - or if they have weekend sessions they are targeted at "dads"! :? ...which doesn't ...
