Re: Please sign this petition to have a town hall Q & A with Jane Ellison MP

Bleating? Margaret Thatcher (quoting Clement Attlee) once referred to referendums as ‘a device for dictators and demagogues’. They reduce complicated issues down to simplistic ‘yes/no’ questions. They allow elected representatives to abrogate responsibility. They weaken the constitutional protection...

Re: Please sign this petition to have a town hall Q & A with Jane Ellison MP

I don't think that I mentioned the single market actually. There are literally thousands of issues to be decided on leaving the EU. The position of other EU citizens is just one, but there will be trade tariffs, environmental protection, university funding, security, patents, drug testing, wages and...

Re: Please sign this petition to have a town hall Q & A with Jane Ellison MP

Government: Shall we move house? People: Yes OK we vote to move house Government: Right then. Gosh. Great. People: Hurray! Sovereignty! Government: But I will decide where we move, and what it's like. YOU can have no say on this, because I the Prime Minister am the only person who can decide this. P...

Re: Fleeced by roofer

It is just a bunch of repairs, not a whole roof. He is charging £3,100 for three days work, we had no contract. (Yes, I know....! I am destined to become an object lesson for others)

Fleeced by roofer

We have got a charming cowboy roofer. What best to do? Have not paid him yet, but the work is shoddy. Should I insist someone inspect it (who?), pay him part of the large fee he is asking, ask him to do it again, or let it go? He was recommended online, so it is very frustrating. Thanks for any advi...

Re: More changes on Northcote Road.

We have lived in our house off Northcote Road for 36 years. It was then and remains, a lovely area, although the rents and rates have forced a lot of independent shops to fold. We should hang on to those that remain, if we can, by SHOPPING at them. I remember a market trader who finally closed up sa...

Re: La Cuisiniere

We are involved in a campaign to start a new independent shop in Northcote Road - Northcote Books! Later this year we will be asking everyone to support it by buying some community shares to raise the start-up money. It will be non profit-making and community owned, but professionally run. We want t...

Re: Copenhagen - can anyone offer advice about schools and a

Lucky you! We went to Copenhagen for three years, we thought, and stayed sixteen! Would recommend Hellerup, just outside the city and by the coast (beaches, daily swimming, fresh air!) There are two international schools there, the Copenhagen International School (CIS) u p to 18 and Rygaard, a Catho...

Re: Please recommend: organic veg / fruit box delivery

Try Riverford, they are really good. They have farms in Devon and France and terrific stuff, vegetables, cheese, meat, drink etc. They have just piloted whole meals where they send a box with three recipes and all the ingredients ready and weighed out etc, all you have to do is cook it. And they are...

Work!

Sooner or later most of us go back to work. After organising a family one could probably do anything short of a moon shot, but the general attitude is that you are not good for....anything really, even if your job was high powered. And as for local part-time work, well who do you think you are? I wa...

Re: Village Books Closing Wandsworth Common

Good news: a new bookshop is on the way! When Bolingbroke Books in Northcote Road announced its closure in March, we held a public meeting to see what could be done. 70 people came, and voted to start a bookshop! Six months later and we are a steering committee about to apply for legal status as a n...
