Re: Domestic violence

Hi notsogreat

Yes, the police are obliged to notify social services if there are children in your relationship.

I wish you all the best at extracting yourself from what seems to be an irretrievable situation

Help with newborns - Christmas/new mum gift suggestion!!!

Dear all, I just wanted to give a huge recommendation for Hayley Neal (PM me for contact details) who has been working with me, my newborn twins and 3yo for the past 6 weeks or so. She has been a nanny for 10 years and recently did additional training in newborn care to become a maternity nurse. She...

Re: Naturopathic Doctor?

She is not a medical doctor, and shouldn't be diagnosing or treating people on that basis. That said, if you wish to pay her to tell you what to eat that is, of course, your prerogative! Very much of the Dara school (I am a medical doctor with several higher degrees!) but some people only believe me...

Re: Maternity and Work - what do you wish you'd known?

I would definitely have been interested - evening probably best. I do wonder if the problems are somewhat career-specific though - unfair practice is sometimes not unlawful. I wish I had known that my employer (the NHS) was within its rights to deny my flexible working request, whilst granting it to...

Re: Estate Agent Recommendation - Rentals?

Hi there We recently used Haus in Fulham and I have nothing but good things to say about them. Friendly, approachable, knowledgeable of the local area and truly made me change my opinions of estate agents generally. That said, we were on the sales side, so I can't specifically recommend their lettin...

Re: How many sick days do you pay your nanny for?

We paid our nanny 5 sick days per year at full pay. When she took 7 working days off for a bad cold, we paid her SSP from day 4. She took a total of 9 days sick in 9 months.
Don't know if that seems reasonable, but it was all we could afford...

Re: Part time housekeeper/cleaner wanted in Fulham

We are shortly moving away from Fulham and my lovely cleaners are looking for more work.
Nicole and Rebecca come in like a whirlwind and are very flexible.
PM me if you'd like their number...

Re: Mermaid Maternity Retreat - Liquidation

I don't think they ever claimed to be offering "maternity care" (that you need a hospital for - though after my experience at C&W I would suggest you get more care in the community anyway...)

I think the point was that there was support and they catered specifically for a new family.

Re: Mermaid Maternity Retreat - Liquidation

Before you make a judgement about how "unnecessary" my decision is, let me say this: 1) I will be having a planned section for medical reasons in a tertiary hospital in west London 2) I spent 24h in the hospital after my previous emergency section 3) I will be living 2 hours drive away and...

Re: Mermaid Maternity Retreat - Liquidation

I'm gutted...
I'd accepted that private maternity care was way out of my price range, but thought I could run to a couple of nights here in the post baby haze...

Does anyone know of anything similar around?

Re: Advice about nanny "perks" - extra income?

I absolutely trust her judgement about safety and suitability of playmates. I think when it comes to financial matters, I would be happier to at least have had a conversation on the phone with the other family about expectations. The other child lives in a big house with a big garden, so I guess for...

Re: Round the world trip

Wow! What lucky kids! I don't have much advice re: travelling that far with littluns. I would consider stopping in Kuala Lumpur rather than Singapore for a cheaper and perhaps more culturally distinct experience. New York might be quite overwhelming for little ones - we used to live on the upper wes...
