Re: Alternative brands for children's clothes to Zara and Boden.

I’d second all of the above and add Verbaudet to the list. Very good quality and classic designs.

Re: An Exclusive Offer For Parents Looking for 11+ Creative Writing Support

Is there any chance of an in person course? My son isn’t motivated with online learning.

Re: Alternative primary schools

Have you looked at the New School in West Norwood? It’s in the old Virgo Fidelis prep building and takes a democratic approach to education. It’s independent but doesn’t charge fees (!). Most of the children there were previously home-schooled. https://www.thenewschool.org.uk/ There are also a coupl...

Re: Another 8% fee increase at Hornsby House school

Hill House is considerably cheaper. Maybe also look east to schools like Rosemead and Oakfield - both on the South Circular.

Re: Waiting list hangout

It was all done over email but I did respond very quickly when the initial decision came out to say it was our first choice. I don’t know if they had a ranked waiting list or if other factors were in play. I was just relieved we didn’t have to wait too long!

Re: Waiting list hangout

I'm very relieved to say that our waitlist position turned into an offer this week.  Fingers crossed for you, nail biting.  Have you had any news?

Re: Waiting list hangout

I don’t know but I’m hoping there will have been some movement now that all the offers have been out for at least a week.

Waiting list hangout

Just thought I’d start a space for those of us (with or without offers) who are on a waiting list for Y7. Anyone want to wait with me? It’s nerve-wracking.

We are WL for the Cedars school in Norwood.

Re: Daughter's best friend and family quite religious and she is asking why we don't pray

In the kindest way, your even posing this question implies a certain degree of intolerance. Just answer your daughter’s questions. She has noticed and is asking questions about differences in the world. Be glad she has this curiosity and use it to reinforce your own beliefs in the same way you outli...

Re: Thames Christian School

At the end of the talk the Head said something like "One last thing - Thames is a mainstream school, not a special school.  We try to be inclusive but there are limits.  Please remember we are a mainstream school." I also found that my access to the Senco was blocked at every turn.  When I...

Re: Thames Christian School

Sad to report I didn't like it.  The facilities are all new and and classes are small, I can't deny that. It has a good mix of nationalities and races, which I think is important. I found the Brutalist concrete architecture and all the glass not at all welcoming.  And the paved courtyards with high ...

Re: Thames Christian School

I'm interested in any parental feedback on this school.  I'm going to the open day tomorrow.  I'm a bit concerned by what I perceive as a move to a less inclusive approach to pupils with SEN over the past few years as seen through statements on their website.  Up to five years ago they used to say t...

Re: German speaking activities/meetup

If you are looking for something more formal, there's the German kindergarten in Herne Hill https://www.germankindergarten.co.uk/hernehill (two sites, one near Herne Hill station and the other one near North Dulwich station).  Judith Kerr primary school in Herne Hill might also be able to signpost y...

Re: ADD/ADHD - diagnosis recommendation

I can recommend Dr Giovanni Giaroli & Associates: http://www.dr-giaroli.org.   Dr Giaroli diagnosed my son last year and was able to immediately start him on medications to help with his issues (I should say he didn't push meds, he did lay out non-med alternatives, but the degree of ADHD (and ot...

Re: 11 plus

If you think it is worth it and you can stomach it, I would pull the school into this.  First of all the bullying and teasing needs to be addressed.  The school must have an anti-bullying policy which by the sounds of it, is not being complied with. Secondly, if this is a prep school, what are they ...
