Re: VAT for prep schools

My understanding is that whilst incoming and outing VAT can be offset, the biggest outing for schools is the teachers’ salaries and they are not VAT-able and therefore much of a private schools outings cannot be offset. The VAT charge will therefore impact on school fees as it cannot all be consumed...

Re: Party entertainer recommendations?

I would highly recommend Zara from Koala Kids Parties https://www.koalakidsparties.co.uk/. It was my son’s 6th birthday party at the weekend and he had a Super Mario themed party but she does lots of different themes. I had 23 kids charging round the house and was starting to question my decision to...

Re: Natural ground subsidence

Speak to your surveyor if you are concerned, but as your solicitor will probably also be able to confirm to you, most such searches in London reveal a potential for natural ground subsidence as the city is built on clay which is susceptible to movement.

Re: resenting my step daughter

Whilst I can understand you possibly wanting some time with your husband and baby (although given the last year of lockdown it’s not like you won’t have seen much of them albeit in a home setting!), this is a young child who presumably doesn’t get to spend much time with her father and you want to d...

Re: First pregnancy, completely overwhelmed

Congratulations! Pregnancy is a real rollercoaster of emotions! I know it’s not quite what you were asking, but if it’s not something you already know about, you might like to look at hypnobirthing to help with the general anxiety around pregnancy and birth. I found it really helped with mine. I kno...

Re: Unleashed dog in Wandsworth Park (near the playground) charged at our young children & 5-year old now terrified

I am so sorry that you and your son had such a horrible experience. I had something similar on Wandsworth Common a few weeks ago with my 3 year old. A man was out running with his fairly large dog off the lead and the dog was running around near the Skylark playground seemingly having a lovely time....

Re: Recommendations for women's physiotherapist for help with prolapse

Sue Lewis is very good http://suelewisantenatal.co.uk/. I saw her after my first son to help with pelvic floor issues and also did her exercise classes which were very good. After my second son, I’ve been doing MUTU classes (which there’s a post about at the moment) with Jiva Health as closer to hom...

Re: Advice for long haul travel with a 9-10 month old

I took a proper pillow when I did long haul with my baby which was really helpful, as I could lay him on the pillow on my lap instead of having to support him. It meant we were both more comfortable and I could have hands free to eat, drink and read, plus I could pass him over to my husband more eas...

Re: Parental leave - dad looking for a hangout?

Hi! There’s a dad’s playgroup that meets in South Wimbledon on Monday and Friday mornings http://www.dadsandlittluns.co.uk/. My husband, Ben, is normally there on a Friday. He’s been going for a couple of years now and has found it a great place to go for both him and our son. I think he felt the sa...

Re: JCT Contracts - who can guide me through this?

Do you have an architect/project manager acting for you? If so, they should be able to help guide you. But I assume that your builder may be doing the full design and build for you, in which case you probably need to speak to a construction lawyer to advise, but there will of course then be fees inv...

Re: Legal family advice

Just to add to Lola123’s reply, whilst it is possible to make a claim against a deceased’s estate on the basis of being a dependent, it is potentially very expensive and time consuming. Also the legal costs incurred by the estate in relation to the claim can effectively reduce the pot of money avail...

Re: In-laws voted leave. They've removed my children's freedom of movement and I can't cope with seeing them any longer.

Shocked, to clarify, my comment re the in-laws having voted Leave and not being evil murdering killers was with regards to your linking the in-laws desire not to discuss Brexit (and I would note that the OP says the family collectively agreed to that, so I don’t think it can be said based on the inf...

Re: In-laws voted leave. They've removed my children's freedom of movement and I can't cope with seeing them any longer.

Wow Shocked, I don’t even know where to begin with your message. Do you not see that your suggestions for Guy are likely to cause irreparable damage with his family? Why would you encourage someone to do that? His in-laws voted Leave, they are not evil murdering killers who should be shunned and vil...

Re: In-laws voted leave. They've removed my children's freedom of movement and I can't cope with seeing them any longer.

You ask for advice and thoughts...mine would be that rather than regularly asking for views from strangers across local social media sites to try to validate your point of view and obvious anger, perhaps you should focus on speaking to your partner and real life friends. Your partner and friends are...
