Re: Stay at home parent with kids in school

How about learning to play Bridge? I recommend looking up Kit Jackson who runs gentle introduction classes £10 per session I think upstairs at The Bedford pub in Balham on Monday mornings 1000. Then, once you can play you can join in on Tuesday mornings too. It's very friendly and has a spread of mi...

Re: Kimberley Swim Clinics - Next Dates

We were impressed with the rapid progress our son made with his instructor Wojtek this week. Within five 30 minute sessions, he moved from one width of doggy paddle to 1-2 lengths of front crawl, backstroke, breaststroke and his first few attempts at butterfly crawl. The 25m pool is warm enough and ...

Re: Henry Cavendish Streatham site

Our child was happy at HCS but we moved them to a prep school after five years at HCS because it lacked the academic rigour we were looking for to prepare for 11+ exams for independent school entry as well as not providing the breadth of subject-matter expertise and extra-curricular opportunities we...

Re: Independent secondary for smart boy with severe anxiety

I've heard good things about Ibstock Place by Richmond Park. Also, co-ed day schools are more relaxed than boys only schools which can be quite competitive. Depending on the age of your son, Newton Prep in Battersea takes children up to 13 years old. We moved our son there and think highly of it: mo...

Re: Vandals cut down tress on Balham High Road

With energy costs being so high, l suspect the main part of the tree trunks were being used or sold as firewood for wood burning stoves or fireplaces. It may be easier to get away with than driving onto the Commons to carry out the same thefts. So, I think this may be more about theft than vandalism...

Re: Fake Grass

I've just today had our artificial grass laid by www.lazylawn.co.uk and email: south@lazylawn.co.uk - they took two days to lay a small area 4m x 3m which included removing an old patio, levelling the foundations, re-concreting the base, fitting the metal edging, laying the lawn and pressing down wi...

Re: How Can anyone vote Tory next week?

First off, how about reading the parties' local election manifestos which you can find by Googling so at least you know what you're voting for rather than simply 'cutting and pasting' the national situation. After all, there are different people involved locally who (usually) actually live in the ar...

Re: how much allowance for a sixteen year old

Our son is still only turning 9 but we've decided to give him £1 per year of his age per month i.e. £9 per month, of which he must save more than half to avoid him spending it all on in-game purchases and sweets. This also helps him get into the saving habit and start to budget for higher value item...

Re: Spate of machete attacks on cyclists in Richmond area

Why don't Royal Parks just put CCTV cameras at all the entrances / exits to Richmond Park or other locations, so there can be number plate recognition or other images which will help catch the culprits?  There's CCTV almost everywhere else today and it's a public space after all.
