Re: How much cash for a wedding gift?

How much would you have spent on a gift if they had a traditional wedding list? Surely you just give the equivalent in cash? I don’t understand why it would be any different.

Re: Local hairdressers / salons / beauty

Great timing @bmf16 because I was about to write a post asking for pedicure recommendations. In addition to a regular pedicures I’m particularly interested in a medi-pedi or similar, to deal with seriously hard skin. A regular foot file isn’t really enough. I’ve been going to the same place in Hamps...

Re: Hourly rates for cleaners/housekeepers in London

I pay £15ph for three hours, 52 weeks of the year, irrespective of sickness, holidays or any occasions when I don’t need or want my cleaner to come. She’s never asked me to cover these things, but I think it’s a reasonable thing to do. I send her a fixed amount by bank transfer each month, which I k...

Re: Wandsworth Council welcomes proposals for lower speeds on some of the borough’s busiest roads

@readysteadycook There’s bags of evidence, going back years, to show that lower speeds lead to fewer injuries and deaths.  I guess it must be a question of priorities, but a few bad drivers getting frustrated is not sufficient reason to avoid making the roads safer. I get frustrated when I’m in a hu...

Re: Wandsworth Council welcomes proposals for lower speeds on some of the borough’s busiest roads

I don’t really understand why this is controversial. Is it only justified if more people have died? And if so, who would be prepared for their loved one(s) to be the tipping point statistic? Even if the officially-stated intention is ‘only’ focused on cutting deaths, reducing the number and severity...

Re: PROBLEM WITH SLUGS IN KITCHEN

I’ve occasionally had them when it’s been very wet, although as others have said, it usually originates from a damp problem. They hate strong smells, so if you sprinkle some peppermint or lavender oil where you’re seeing them they’re more likely to be put off.

Re: Are you testing for covid? I feel guilty but don't want to be the only one in London testing!

I’m really shocked by some of these replies. It’s ignorant to assume that one person’s mild symptoms will result in nothing more than mild symptoms for another. I have experience in my own wider family of a household where the same infection caused symptoms that ranged from barely noticeable, to bed...

Re: 25th Wedding Anniversary gift suggestion

I have bought art vouchers several times for milestone anniversaries and birthdays. It’s nice to have something tangible for a milestone, which also serves as a reminder of those who bought it.  www.degreeart.com has a wide range of types of art and prices by recent art graduates.

Good places to eat with young adults

I’ve got two 21yo coming to stay (friend’s children) and trying to think where to take them to eat one evening. Haven’t eaten out much since pre-pandemic so I don’t feel very in touch with what’s good anymore. It doesn’t need to be too fancy - it will just be a midweek supper - but would be great to...

Re: Neighbours snoring SO SO loud, help!

It’s not an ideal situation, but I really don’t understand what you expect them to do about it. As has been said above, raising it with them might lead you to discover that what goes on in your house can be heard next door. In the meantime, and for the sake of a short period of warm nights, I sugges...
