Re: External wall insulation in Wandsworth: any experience dealing with the council? No approval needed?

Shame you didn't get any replies here. Did you take your project further? We are looking at similar. I would agree EWI to rear ought to be tolerated as PD would permit one to say paint your whole house white and rendered EWI would not look *that* different. Also generally council allow more change a...

Re: Year 4 Multiplication Exam

I’m quite appalled by the tone of this post and the misleading use of the term ‘Exam’. And also by its promotion as such in the weekly email. The insidious impression is that busy parents are somehow failing their child if they are unaware of this and that this ‘Exam’ may somehow matter for your chi...

Re: is it ok for me to give a 15 year old a beer to have with friends?

Personal perspective My dad did this with me when I was 16. He knew we would all get alcohol some way, but he later told me he was far happier giving me 6 (six! I only expected 4, that was a masterstroke) cans (of not strong, cleverly selected by him but an acceptable brand) beer for a parties than ...

Re: Schools Admitting More Pupils

Tigger I’m sorry but I really don’t think you have understood the provision required. If 3 of the 7 years have returned at above 75% attendance then because bubbles are limited (by the government) to 15 these means that the typical year, 4 classes of 120 pupils has over 90 returning which becomes at...

Re: Schools Admitting More Pupils

I’m a Belleville parent too. I do not think the majority of parents are ‘tearing their hair out’, but there are fair criticisms: 1) everyone has been disappointed by the level of direct teacher interaction. While we use an app and get written feedback/encouragement on work, it’s not the same as havi...

Re: First Aid for Life - Common Coronavirus myths dispelled

I am sorry, but I don’t think we are saying the same thing. Many supermarket antibacterial wipes do not make any claims about killing viruses e.g. Tesco own brand, Waitrose own brand. I have always agreed that higher quality wipes e.g. certainly those available to healthcare professionals, may be ef...

Re: First Aid for Life - Common Coronavirus myths dispelled

I am not confused. Antibacterial agents do not kill viruses, they kill bacteria. (as they are named). Antibacterial agents themselves do not have much effect on the structure of viruses. It is true (and I mentioned it in my comment) that many antibacterial products also contain some soap and some al...

Re: First Aid for Life - Common Coronavirus myths dispelled

This is mostly very sensible advice “It is thought that the virus can survive on cardboard for up to 4 hours and so if concerned wipe all groceries with antibacterial cloths before bringing them into your home” I am afraid the above sentence is potentially misleading. Antibacterial agents have no ef...

Re: Extra places in the pipeline at popular schools with £15m investment in local education

Why on earth is nappyvalley promoting this un fact-checked press release from Wandsworth Council right at the start of the purdah period of a general election?

Is this simple naivety or political bias.

I would welcome a response please

Re: General Election - what do we think for Battersea?

Just some pesky facts here for anyone who sees this seat as a ‘long-standing conservative’ seat Martin Linton held this seat for Labour from 1997-2010. Martin Linton incidentally was named as an expenses angel by the telegraph I.e. one of a handful of sitting MPs who did not overclaim in expenses (a...

Re: Wanted: Frog 48 or Islabike Cnoc 16

Hi we have a cnoc16 which is getting a bit small for our little man.
It’s in very good condition as not used often, apart from one brake cable that might need replaced.
It’s a red one with mudguards ( a godsend), please pm me if interested, we are off the Northside

Re: Unauthorised Absence from School

Appreciate your question was about local authority policy and its sounds like your decision is already made. I have several friends who are teachers and even they have mixed views on this. I would very respectfully suggest you could perhaps informally ask your child’s teacher their opinion on this. ...

Re: Swimming lessons for a 1 year old

Both teaching pools at Latchmere and Clapham Manor Leisure Centre are warmer than the main pool
The group lessons there can be tricky to get a spot in but are very good value.
