Recommendation needed please

Postby luckymummy » Thu Jan 09, 2014 1:10 pm

As a child I suffered from claustrophobia which lasted into my late teens. My 20s and 30s seemed to be much better but about 18 months ago I got stuck in a small bathroom with no windows and had a complete panic. This has now started a series of more panic attacks on the tube, in lifts, in the cinema etc and I feel like I need to do something about it before it gets totally out of hand. Does anyone know of someone who can help?

Sian Barnard from Peaceful Minds - hypnotherapist but also a qualified psychotherapist so it's all done professionally. Have heard good things about her helping with this kind of thing. Her number is 07737 491 728. I have met her and she is very approachable. Www.peacefulminds.org.uk.
Good luck with it.

I found this book very useful:
Understanding Panic Attacks: and Overcoming Fear by Roger Baker
I know it's perhaps annoying to hear "oh you must read this book" as I'm sure you've read plenty but this book does have something new specifically to say about panic. (I found there was so much out there about "anxiety" but very little actually about panic).

Pls forgive my forwardness in saying the following: I think you may already know deep down that the person who can help you overcome this is you. I do hope that thought connects with you, but it's great to realise you need some help to get there (I didn't for years)
Caroline Wells is a clinical psychologist who works locally who helped me.

good luck

If you live in Wandsworth you can self-refer to the adult Psychological Therapies Service for treatment of anxiety disorders including panic, OCD etc and depression.

Appointments are offered at gp's across the borough.
