I don't know if my experience is relevant to this thread, but I might as well post it anyway. I was walking down Boundaries Road (SW12) last week and was approached by two young men. The older of the two looked about 20ish, whilst his mate looked to be in his early teens.

The older one (ha, ha) tried to hand me a small 'flyer', ostensibly for building and decorating services. But then he asked me whether I lived in a house or flat - WHY?

I told him that I wasn't interested as my husband is a builder - at which point he backed off.

But afterwards it occurred to me that there was something 'not quite right' about his approach. After all, what reputable builder/decorator would have young chaps collaring people as they walk down the road?

When I first moved to Wandsworth, some 16 years ago, the Police were advertising a 'Neighbourhood Watch Contact Service' . Basically you registered with them and they would inform you by automatic phone message of any relevant crimes in the area (burglaries, muggings, car thefts )

So I sat back and looked forward to up to the minute reports on local crime so that I could prepare myself for any upsurge in activity and be ready to report anything suspicious.

What I got was a recorded message reminding me to check all doors and windows when I left the house....and six months later at Christmas a reminder not to leave Christmas presents on display in my car...Gee thanks Wandsworth Police!

Needless to say I haven't heard another peep from the 'Contact Service' to this day.

My point is , in this connected age we should not have to rely on sites like Nappyvalleynet to find out if there is a rise in burglaries in our neighbourhood...once a single incident becomes a spate of crime we should have an official way of being warned so we can take preventative action.

The 'news' on the Wandsworth Police site;

http://content.met.police.uk/Borough/Wandsworth

is frankly so much PR fluff and appeals to identify CTV mugshots - where is the proactive news about what is happening outside our front door?

Come on Metropolitan Police - we're not about to grab pitchforks and start arresting Hoodies vigilante style!

Am I alone in thinking we need more official information and less reliance on chance website threads and local gossip! :o

That is a lot of break in's and not including any of this week. Method is forcing the sash I presuming the inside frame holding the window in place. Be interesting to know what if any response there is?

Our car (BMW X5) was stolen on Thursday evening right outside our house, no keys or breaking, the police think there is device which is bringing used to steal X5's, there have been a lot stolen around sw11 recently. It's gone, in a container on its way to china. So unfair but if you have a new X5 I strongly recommend a steering wheel lock, it's deters them due to speed of stealing the car.

I wonder if it has anything to do with the burglaries that happened the same evening.?

Re BMW theft - http://www.channel4.com/news/bmw-securi ... car-thefts

Different crew doing break ins and export car thefts. The break in crew must need a vehicle you would have thought. Keep an eye out for unfamiliar cars late (very) at night.

Absolute tossers, who are these people? Sounds like they are getting braver with every burglary (assuming it's the same person/gang?). I hope they are caught soon, and I hope the affected homeowners recover ok. What sort of things were stolen? Small things or did they have a van of some sort to take away large items (such as tv's etc...).

This may have been nothing but upon reading this post I wonder...last week two men of Asian appearance (Pakistani looking) stopped outside my house and were looking in to our basement. My oh said they were prob builders as it's quite a new job and builders often look at it. But in my experience the builders around here are Eastern European not Pakistani (before people jump on my I'm just stating an opinion am in no way trying to be racist!). I went to the window so they could see that I saw them looking in. It may be perfectly innocent but I am keeping my alarm on at night after reading this post.

Hi - there may have been a similar comment previously but just in case this is useful, both my husband and I have prey software on our laptops. Doesn't prevent them from being stolen but prevents the thief being able to access the data, the laptop / device can be tracked and will take photos via the webcam of the thief using your machine (if they try to) and upload the information to a server that you can then access. More details on their website

I was the unlucky recipient of the burglary on Althorp Road on fri. Interesting to note the thieves had nicked sweets from Wiseton road before heading over to us and taking bread, eggs, milk, ham etc as well as the usual phones and laptop. Obviously peckish!!

Hi all,
Just to let you know - there was another burglary this evening - on Broomwood Road. Again - front sash window forced.
Beware!
