Abacus vs stepping stones

Postby Jocelyn » Tue Feb 18, 2014 12:13 am

Hi all

I'm looking for a nursery for my one year old and wondered what mums and dads thought of these two nurseries?

If anyone could share their experiences that would be appreciated!

Thank you

Hi there,

My daughter was at the Streatham Hill Abacus from when she was one and a half until she started school. I can not recommend this nursery enough. Each stage was great - I felt she was really well looked after as a toddler. All the children seemed really happy - you rarely saw children crying. The staff were really kind and the Manager (Lienne) is very understanding, flexible and approachable. And then as she got older, she could express how much she enjoyed going and seeing all her friends and she loved all the staff there. The other reason I would really recommend it is because she was so well prepared for school there. She could already read three letter words by the time she left and could add up simple numbers. She also settled into school really quickly as did all the children who went there. I felt they made the transition from nursery to school really easy for us and I am really grateful for this.

I know nothing about Stepping Stones though, so can't comment on them. What I would say though, is the most important thing to go on is your gut instinct when you visit. I just felt 'at home' at Abacus straight away and I knew it was right for my daughter. It might feel like that at Stepping Stones or at another place altogether, but you will probably know when you look around as you will just get a feeling as to whether you can see them there or not.

Good luck!
