Hi I can recommend our childminder Debbie Lyons, she is on Lyham road, so slightly nearer Brixton but not far from Clapham common. We live in Clapham common and it takes me 10 minutes to walk at hers.

She is excellent, she has looked after our son since he was 8 months old until now, he is 2 years and 8 months old. She has a very good set up in her house, with lots of toys that she changes regularly, is very warm and affectionate with children while also being firm and teaching them how to behave properly. She takes them out to playgrounds on a daily basis and children get e very good exposure to group surroundings while also having the comfort of a home.

We have reduced our days with her from 4 to 2 at the moment and have started 2 days at nursery (elm park nursery) just so that our son gets ready for the pre-school stage.

Debbie is looking for another family to start ASAP - that's the only thing with you wanting to start in October. I'd recommend you visit her and see by yourself, her number 07984566260.

Hi, as I work from home, I just wondered how it works with child minders, for example how many children does Debbie look after? are they different ages, if you could give me some guidance on price as well, I would be grateful. My son will soon be two and looking at all options as now need help!

Also do they take children to play groups if requested?

Many thanks

Hi Gingerbread,
Apols for slow reply. So the way it works is that Debbie can have a number of children - there is Ofsted regulations that indicate how may children under a certain age childminders can have. I have to say i don't remember exactly but if you go on to Ofsted's pages I'm sure you can find out.

The way it worked for us, is that Debbie had my son when he was 8 months and she had another little boy, a few months later of a similar age. They have both been with her since and will be continuing until they go to nursery.

She takes the children to different playgroups everyday, at effra road, a church near weir road, the windmill, clapham common, maytree etc. They have a busy agenda and my son looks forward to seeing the play leaders in all these places which he knows well.

I'll send you a DM re price but generally speaking childminders can be cheaper than nurseries. For us the family/home environment Debbie offers to our son has been the best benefit from this kind of arrangement. And all the learning from her and from interacting with other children/adults.

Don't hesitate to visit her and see for yourself.
