Teddies nursery - any good?

Postby coldatchristmas » Wed Mar 11, 2009 8:02 pm

I am now looking at daycare nurseries for my daughter. She is one. Is the Teddies in Balham any good?

In a word, no. The babycare room is good but the Little Learners room not so much.
High staff turnover and we got the feeling that most staff didn't really care.
We took our child away in the end.

My son used to go to Teddies and overall I did like it however I felt that the Little Learners section which my son went to wasn't structured correctly. The age range in his room was 2 years to just before school age which I felt was totally inappropriate - a 2 year olds needs is completely different to a pre-school child. I decided to move him sooner rather than later because, although I thought he was ok now I didn't think that when he was older he would develop as much as being with lots of children his own age. When I handed in my notice at the nursery they said that they had plans to change the class structure and have rooms that were more age specific.... time will tell i suppose. My son starts at L'Ecole de Benjamin on Oldridge Road in Balham tomorrow - fingers crossed it goes well :) Good luck

Hello All,

I'd be delighted to answer this one as my children were Teddies 'lifers'
By that I mean first one started at 16 weeks and last one finished a couple of days before she started school.

We still use some of the old staff as baby sitters and I regularly see a couple of the carers in my school playground as they now nanny for (ex Teddies) families - a good sign I think.

Back in the day...the Balham nursery was split into 3 groups - actually the older group itself was split into 2 parts, each group had a couple of rooms and there was tons of outside space, well equipped with toys/scooter/tricycles etc!

With the exception of about 3 months in the middle (and we spanned 6 yrs!) we all (parents and children) loved it. Those few months were not disastrous - just a bit unsettling, staff changes etc. I would add that they affected parents, not chidren.

We ( children and parents!) have also made some really good friends.

I know I sound biased, I guess I am, but it made for a very happy introduction to childcare/ nusery life. :)
