Grandsons hair too long - advice needed please !

Postby magnificentseven » Mon Mar 31, 2014 10:25 am

My daughter and son-in-law insist that their sons hair is long. He is 2 years old and has this fringe that covers his eyes down to his nose. He clearly get irritated by this but his Mummy and Daddy wont do anything. The other Grandmother agrees with me - should we take matters into our own hands and jointly cut the hair, or should I make up woollen fringes (out of spare knitting wool) and insist that the parents wear them for a whole day to see what its like ? Advice please !

Hi,

One of my twin boys has long hair and over the last 6 months we have been growing his fringe out. I personally think it makes him look less girly without a fringe.

I've been using a small amount of styling gel to guide it to the side and that along with after it's washed drying it to the side. I think we're finally there!

Perhaps they're trying to grow his fringe out? I wouldn't cut it though, I wouldn't of been impressed if someone had done that to mine.

Naughty Granny! This post made me smile this morning. As tempting as it would be to surprise Mum and Dad with a lovely new haircut, I think the woolen fringe is a fantastic idea! If I was Mummy, I'd be more than up for trying it out.

Knitted fringes are an amazing idea... can I have one?! ;)

Honestly though, don't cut the hair. If my MIL took my kids' grooming into her own hands I would be furious. If you think it's that bad, talk to her seriously about it... or get him a good case of nits, no better reason to get a proper haircut!!!

I really would not cut his hair myself - dont worry ! He is always threatened by "Granny would not like it" "Granny says no" But I guess I am more strict - ie eating meals sitting down not wandering around the house.

This also made me smile.

I think the hair is a proxy for bringing him up gernerally.

Your comment

I think shows the REAL issue.

I think you disagree with the way they are bringing him up and want to see a bit more order and structure in his life. I am not saying that you are wrong, or right, but please please please don't act on your impulses. Tell us here about it and use that to get it out of your system.

It really is nothing to do with you :-)

And I mean that comment nicely

Your grandson's hair has nothing to do with you! I'm not trying to be rude or anything else, but the ones in charge are the parents. If you are trying to help them, you can maybe suggest that you have spare time and can take him for a haircut, but don't do it without talking to them.

Oh ho ho - what an angry response - It was meant to gauge reaction - ok - lets will cease this - he cant see where he is going, looks like a prat, will fall over and trip, can play football at the expensive club he is taken to because he cant see the ball, but c'est la vie - he is only my grandson not my child. No more please - I shall unsubscribe from this thread and bite my tongue and merely say what lovely hair you have ! ;)

Ha ha! This made me laugh! My Mum is always complaining about young boys with long hair. I tend to agree with her on that, so will keep my son's hair short!

Perhaps you could buy your grandson some frilly, pink hair clips for Easter and suggest he use them for mealtimes and sports!

You have had 'your turn' at the old parenting game and I am sure you did it beautifully, but now it is 'their turn' it really is as simple as that.

When my parents get too involved, I just say these words...'my turn', make of that what you will ; )

But aren't your family very lucky to have such an involved and caring granny? I hope they realise how lucky they are. Even the more hirsute ones!

Are you my mother/mother in law??!!!

I love my boys having longer hair but I do tend to draw the line when they can't see.... (my husband hates it too but he sucks it up to avoid me then raising the prospect of another baby that might be a girl...!).
