Recommendations on where to get window coverings made

Postby specialk1215 » Sun Mar 23, 2014 12:10 pm

Hi there,
We are moving into a rental property and many of the windows have no window coverings. The landlord has told us we can choose our own window coverings (curtains, not shutters unfortunately) as long as they are a 'reasonable' cost. Having not had curtains made before, I have no idea what a reasonable cost is and where I might go to get this done.
Any suggestions? Much appreciated!
:)

E & A Wates will come and measure up for curtains but first:

Take a rough measurement of your window/s and the length to the floor if you want them longer than the window
Include the existing track or pole and include dimensions/position in your measurements
If you need new pole/track do you need them fitting for you
How will you close the curtains - by hand, cord or electric
Choose the heading you like eyelet/tape (this might depend on the fixings already in place)
Think about the lining - do you need an interliner for warmth or blackout lining
Find a fabric you like and the price per metre
Do you want the curtains fitted for you

A curtain maker would then be able to give you a rough estimate.
E & A Wates on Mitcham Lane don't charge for this, email the information over or go in and have a chat when you are looking for fabrics.

Hi there, I always use Beatrice at Ma Maison. She has made blinds and curtains for me, and at the moment is making up some cushions from an old linen table cloth that I could no longer use as it was stained with red wine. She is very good, reliable, and affordable. And knows all the best places for material. C

Thank you so much - two great options for me. All I could think of was John Lewis... I knew there would be a better choice. :)
