Having been lucky enough to employ some wonderful nannies, I can assure you you need to get a new one. Declining to talk to you is unprofessional and a very bad sign.

She isn't happy, and I'd be worried she would walk out. I'd call a nanny agency asap to start finding a replacement as I agree with the previous poster that she sounds the type to "walk" when given notice.

Her attitude seems odd. Both the nannies who have worked for us send at least one email or text per day with photos of what they are up to, and have never expressed problems with that (nor have they needed prompting). We've been really happy to have the pictures. I'd absolutely expect responses to my texts during the day, unless it were something obviously not relevant to that day (e.g. please let me know what Christmas hols you'd like).

I'm afraid I agree with others that it may be a sign of a broader problem. Good luck.

Going against general comments here but it can be beneficial to provide a phone. We provide a cheap pay as you go phone and credit for work purposes only. This means there is no excuse for her to be using her phone during working hours, no excuse that she was just checking if there is a message from the parents etc. It also means that any photos she takes of the children are on our device and if the relationship goes bad someone doesn't have pictures of them forever….

It does sound as if she is not happy, BUT we have only heard your side. Please think hard before you let her go as it will be a big wrench for her to leave your home and children.

You say that you pay her well, and on the face of it, this does seem the case, but are you sure that all is well with her working conditions? Do you make last minute demands on her? Have you been friendly and welcoming? not too critical? etc.... If you can honestly say yes and you have tried a few times to discuss matters, then there is not much choice, although having said that, she may be job hunting in any case.....

I would contact the agency & start looking for a new nanny, this is totally unacceptable.

Good luck

OMG! This nanny sounds exactly the same as one we had a few years ago.
She was using our landline to call her own country and using internet to send me text messages in order to avoid paying for them.
I would be very very careful as these were very bad signs of her personal issues. I realized tooo late what she was really like behind her fake smile (and references). We ended up inviting her to leave and before doing that she tried to poison us putting washing liquid in our wine.
I don't want to generalize as after her he have had amazing nannies who were with us for a very long time but that experience really increased my awareness of signals to look at.
Good luck! hope you sort it out sooner rather than later!

Hello, I know this lady who wrote this article, she lives in my neirborhood! I have seen too many girls working for her in the past, most of them stayed only 2 weeks and left, I would not rely on her word really and we did not hear the story from her nanny! They seem a rough family, I can hear them screaming all the time even through walls and they do have lots of physical fights as well, I am surprised there is still someone who wants to work for them at all! So please get real and realize where you make mistakes with your nannies, you seem really neurotic when I see you with your 3 kids, I am surprised noone has reported you yet! There are bad nannies but very bad employers as well and this lady is just not one of those mums who treats her employees in an appropriate way, I have seen too many girls coming and going!

Annabel, I can't figure out how to report the rocketmum post sorry, but I think it should be deleted as inappropriate.

First off, if it is anything, it is libel, not slander. Libel = written; slander = spoken.

Secondly, it is only defamatory if someone can connect the original poster with a real life person. It is not possible to slander a username on an anonymous (at least to everyone other than Annabel) website.

I am interested in who Rocketmum is and why she is posting. I note that this is her first post. I wonder if she might be the nanny in question.

I always think some people give away rather too much with some of the posts on this site. I mean, if I were the nanny in question and I real the thread I would work out pretty quickly that the original post applied to me.

I work as a live in nanny and never got a nanny phone. I paid for all my own phone calls and texts. She is paid very well I work 60 hours a week and get a little bit less salary then your nanny and I am happy with that. I have been working as a live in nanny for the past 6 years for different families. That's always been the way with every. If she is refusing to talk to you that's so weird I think.
