Chicken shop is owned by the soho house group (soho house, the electric, Shoreditch house etc) so technically a chain.
Belleville rendez-vous on Trinity rd. Lovely French restaurant owned by local family. Really reasonable set menu. Yum!

Also TOTA by tooting broadway- all day food with breakfast being a particular highlight! So reasonable and run and owned by a lovely local couple- he was a private chef on boats for years.

I don't think Brixton Food Market's been mentioned yet. Such a vibrant pleasure to grab lunch or dinner at the weekend - and a refreshing change of scenery from overpriced Northcote road... Good Earth on Bellevue (opp Wands common) does amazing Chinese food, which reminds of me of Chinese restaurants in the States, and has wonderful attentive service.

Curry leaf on St. John's hill. Amazing food!! Pricey service charge but is well worth it.. It's got to be one of Johnny Vaughan favs as he is always in there when we go!!

We are soon to move from Clapham Common Northside to Streatham Hill area just off Tooting Bec Common - would love to hear some recommendations for Streatham restaurants from locals!

Streatham Hill has lots of brilliant food places now too. There's even an annual food festival in June. Adomme the wonderful neighbourhood pizza place has been mentioned a couple of times, but there's also Boyce da Roca, a Melbourne style cafe; Illi, Lebanese; Beyrouths; Wholefood cafe; and two great family friendly pubs - The Manor Arms and Pratts & Payne.

Too late to add ??
Putney Canteen Lower Richmond Road (soon to have soft play area apparently) yet to try lunchtimes, although looks really nice but evening food is good, and relatively cheap, particularly if you go on Mondays - steak night, or Thursdays "ladies night"

Anaabel - could you do a separate restaurant section? I keep looking for this post as it's the most useful on the entire site. We've already become fans of the Thai Grocer thanks to your recommendation and would like to try some more of the places people suggest.

Love the new restaurant on Battersea Rise. It's called Sinabro and serves French cuisine. Amazing food and husband and wife owned and run the place. He has been head chef at numerous Michelin started restaurants in London and France. But they have scrimped and saved to do their own business.

Charming and warm hosts, small and intimate venue and the most amazing food at an unbelievable price. 3 courses for £29. Outstanding and will be back again as It is Chez Bruce standard.
