Paediatric cardiologist

Postby mummy_dani » Tue May 13, 2014 2:37 pm

I've just taken my son to the GP and he needs to be referred to a paediatric cardiologist about a heart murmur and possible hole in the heart. Can anyone recommend someone? We've got private medical cover so obviously happy to use that. I'm just desperate for an appointment asap.

Thanks for any suggestions?

I just saw your post and it took me back to over 7 years ago when our GP heard a murmur and referred our baby boy to a cardiologist. I have just delved into my memory and with the name Piers, Harley Street and a little help from the internet, I found the consultant we saw - Piers Daubenay. We really liked him. He did various checks and found a small hole which he reassured would close up over time. Repeat visit about 6 months later confirmed that to be the case. I hope your experience will be similarly reassuring. Good luck.

My son is 14 months and has seen Aaron Bell since birth. We see him on the NHS mainly as my son has other issues and it works better that way for us but I know he does see private patients. We see him at Evelina children's hospital ( ie St Thomas's). He is highly regarded and has a lovely manner. His secretary is on 0207188 4563 and she should be able to direct you for private appointments.

Ps - I wouldn't rule out or be put off by nhs route if you do end up doing that. Evelina is one of the leading paeds cardio hospitals in uk and have been great with us! Obviously I understand your preference to go privately but they do have fantastic doctors there.

I can second Aaron Bell at the Evelina. Our little boy became unwell when he was 5 days old with meningitis and myocarditis and was transferred to the Evelina. Aaron Bell was his cardiologist and we really liked him, he got a scary situation under control quickly. We felt in very safe hands with him and all of the doctors at the Evelina. Can't praise them enough.

Thank you for your responses.

We couldn't get in to see Dr Daubenay until next week but we did get a appointment last night with Dr Robert Yates at the Harley Street Clinic. He was really lovely and very good with my son ( who is 3 1/2 and was not happy to be going to see another doctor. - although he was very excited to see what he thought was the pizza he had for lunch in his tummy via the echocardiogram!!).

Thankfully there is not hole in his heart and only a very slight murmur.

For anyone else who has a child who suffers from blue lips, apparently its very common and nothing to worry about (obviously still see a GP but don't panic too much) and they usually grow out of it.
