Baby bike seat

Postby Moop » Tue Apr 22, 2014 1:32 pm

Can anyone recommend a bike seat attachment for an 18 m old?

I've heard good things about the wee ride kangaroo seat but not sure if it will be outgrown quickly.

Thanks!

Hi,

I use a wee ride for my daughter, it's ok but I wouldn't buy it again.
It makes steering difficult. I think I am going to replace it with http://www.yepp.nl/uk/Home

Good luck!

I had a yepp and loved it. You are conscious of it in terms of cycling but I didn't find it a big issue.

I also had a co-pilot limo on the back (twins so used one front and one back) - greater longevity (my (smallish) 4 year olds still fit in it but have outgrown the yepp) but not as fun!

I have the WeeRide Safefront and have had loads of use out of it. My daughter is 2 1/2 now and has been on it since she was 1. It is a deceptively light design - I was very sceptical when I saw first saw it, but think we'll get another year's riding out of it yet. The main thing is that my daughter LOVES being on it which makes riding together really fun, especially now she's a bit older. You do need to think about the type of riding you're planning to do as I don't think a front-mounted seat would be the best choice on longer trips with hills. You have to pedal with a slightly wider stance to accommodate it, which takes a bit of getting used to but not a huge issue. We just pootle around the Commons and use it for the nursery run (I work locally) so it's great for that!

Hi - these ideas look great. Do you know whether these seats can be fitted to road bikes (which is what I have) or do you need a hybrid/mountain bike/tourer? Thanks!

Hi, I bought it new for just over £100 less than a year ago, didn't use it much so was thinking about £50 for the child seat, You are more than welcome to have a look. I used it on a normal (Dutch) bike.

There are a number of brands which will suit an 18month old.

Most parents end up buying a front fitted child seat with a mount which enables them to embrace them from a forward facing position and let go of concerns not being able to see them when fitted into a rear seat. Usually the guidlelines for these seats are 8 months - 3 years (dependent on child)

A couple brands which we would suggest are Bo-Bike, Yepp. They are both a nice design, easy to take on and off (or swap between bikes if need be) You can also get a screen if your concerned about debris etc, so plenty of add on options.

Depending on your bikes handlebar stem, you should be able to get a bracket which accommodates these brands, however on the point which was made about having to ride wider legged, that is just down to it not being fitted properly, or the bike being not suitable. So something to consider when marrying a certain bike seat with your bike. If the bracket is fitted to the handlebars you can get ore allowance which prevents that from happening.

We sell all these seats at our shop, if you want free advice, and options. Also we fit our accessories for free. Let us know if you want a hand.
