Hi

I'm a local interior designer and I use a company called Spaced In to bespoke make alcove shelving for my clients. It's run by a lovely guy called Ben who is great at what he does and has really competitive prices. Have a look at: www.spacedin.co.uk

I used a guy called Hamilton who is a carpenter by trade but works for himself, i.e. not a big company. He did my wardrobes made to measure in alcoves. Very proffessional and nice guy. His number is 02087710906. He has done quite a few houses book shelves in alcoves near me.

We just had beautiful cupboards for toys and a bookshelf made to measure. We used the chiswick woodworking company (they have a great website but can't link it, it comes up in google). The customer care and follow up was excellent and the work is beautiful- we were really pleased. I didn't get lots of quotes however as am a bit bad at that (I do work full time so I'll cut myself some slack!) so I don't know how they stack up price wise. But they were very good. Good luck!

I can second Scooby's recommendation of Hamilton. He visited last week to quote for a relatively small job - building a cupboard in an alcove outside our kitchen.

He quoted a fair price and was able to do the work a few days later. As he had already measured up carefully he built most of the cupboard off-site and was only with us a few hours to install and cut the shelves to size.

He was very professional, turned up when he said he would and was pleasant to deal with. He brought a laptop with lots of pictures of his work, and was happy to give me the number of a former customer who provided a reference. I definitely recommend him, and will no doubt call on his services again.

For the ones that recommended Hamilton; I called him in last week for a quote but he said the units come unfinished. May I ask how you painted them, before installation or after and what paint? I was hoping for a lacquered finish. Nappy Valley is my go to place for all of my home issues. :)

Hi little chicken,
I think I painted it with egg shell style paint and a small roller. It was a while ago. But Hamilton should be able to tell you.

I've just had alcove units and radiator covers put in by Spaced In who did a great job in terms of the design and finish, but also in terms of timeliness, flexibility and reliability. I had 5 quotes and his design and lead time were the best, and he was the second cheapest. Highly recommend.

Steer well clear of Hamilton.

Very odd guy. Cancelled our job the morning it was supposed to begin because we asked for a minor change.
