Having just returned from a week on the Amalfi coast, I am inspired to adopt a more Mediterranean diet - lots of fresh fruit and veg, fish, olive oil, herbs etc.

Having done my online ocado shop just before we returned, I found myself uninspired and put off by the offering

Would really prefer to buy produce from local farmers markets, stalls etc - can anyone recommend any local ones please? I have been to Borough market but find it very expensive!

Also, any recommendations for proper Italian bread?

We regularly go to the Saturday farmers market held at Chestnut Grove school. it's small but has some great stalls. Veg and fruit really depends on what's in season in the Uk as of course it's all uk produce, some weeks there is lots there, others not so much.

the fish stall at that market is really good value, or there is a fish stall by Hamish Johnston on Northcote road which is also good.

breadstall on northcote road does an "Italian white" but no idea how authentically Italian it is - it's very nice though!

Hi Amme,

I am in the process of setting up what's called a Community Supported Fishery for Wandsworth. It's a twist on the "veg box" model and members sign up for a season's worth of fish, choosing how much they would like to collect, either weekly or fortnightly. The fish is all sourced from small boats using sustainable methods at the closest ports and the catch is brought to London the same day so it's as fresh as can be. You don't get to choose the type of fish you get because it is whatever the fishermen have caught that day, but it's super fresh, seasonal, sustainable and local and by encouraging members to consume a wider range of species, it relieves pressure on the better known species and helps with management of fish stocks. There is an organisation operating a very similar model on the south coast called Catchbox. There's a lovely farmer's market at Wimbledon Park Primary School on Havana Road, SW19 every Saturday from 9am-1pm...

Oh and I also really recommend the fruit and veg stall on Hildreth Street - amazing value compared with the supermarkets.

I also second the veg stall on Hildreth St - very good value. Moxons at clapham south is excellent and the guys in there always helpful. For meat we go to ginger pig on aberville rd - a bit pricy but great produce and choice, we get rabbit from there to do a fan Italian dish.

Try Farm Drop (www.farmdrop.co.uk) who provide delicious, local & seasonal food whilst supporting independent producers in the local community. Or as mentioned before try WImbledon Farmers Market (Wimbledon Park Primary School on Havana Road) every Saturday morning. It is a little pricey and I would say be careful with the bread, I've bought bread there before and it was stale by the next morning.

But just to be clear, it was only once that I I had bad bread, the rest of the time, it's been great.
