Seamstress recommendation for restyling a wedding dress

Postby monaco » Thu Jun 12, 2014 9:29 am

Hi

I am looking for a seamstress who could help me restyle a wedding dress. I originally had it short but now want it long. The original designer now doesn't have time in her schedule to help me restyle the dress.

I have the fabric so what I need is someone who will have a good eye for the right shape, who will be empathetic and can work with me to make the dress lovely.

And of course someone not too far from the area and not expensive !

Anyone knows of a gem like this ?

Many thanks

Hello Monaco,

There is a wonderful dressmaker working here at the club. If you would like to bring the dress we can have a look and provide some ideas - no obligation at all.

Pls send me an email at inma@theoldschoolclub.co.uk and I will arrange some time with her. We are just in Lavender hill .. very local!

Kind regards,
Inma.

Hi,

Golden Stitches on new kings road - amazing seamstress with fantastic ideas. Celebs and us normal people go there and they specialise in wedding dresses. Husband and wife team and amazing at any kind of alterations, with lots of clever ideas.

Thank you very much for all the replies. There are a lot of choices from the local seamstress to specialists for celebrities so I'm sure to find the right person in that group.

I will report on my choice and recommendation for others once the dress is finished.

A huge thank you to all

Hello all

I have met or talked to several of the names listed here.

Confort at the oldschoolclub was a very nice lady who showed me a very nice dress she made. I would recommend her for alterations. Inma (who is not a seamstress but made the introductions) was so warm and helpful, thank you again very much.

The best person for me in the end turned out to be someone recommended by a mum from the school.

Her name is Elaine Closs and she is on Battersea Rise (but will soon move to her studio in Fulham and offering instead onsite visit in your home or office).

She was honest, experienced, friendly, empathic, imaginative and creative and offered reasonable prices. She really tried to find alternative solutions for my dress. Highly recommended.

She also confirmed that my dress was badly made, which is what I suspected! I have now two options: trying to make do with that one (with Elaine's help) or buying something new.

This time I probably won't go for a weddingy dress but just for a nice dressy outfit straight from the shops well cut, well fitted and that make me look stylish. So if you have any ideas of shops or brands that could help me in that quest, do let me know !
