Adventure Island complaint

Postby mumofsoontobetwo » Wed Jul 23, 2014 4:43 pm

Is it just me, or is Bertie and Boo's Adventure Island become a complete rip-off? I don't go there all that often, partly because each time I do - the prices have gone up. At the end of June, they got rid of the hourly time slots so you now have to purchase an all-day pass no matter how little time you'd like to spend, and given how small the place it is, it's asking a bit much in my opinion. That on top of overpriced coffee and cakes, and paying for babies who aren't even crawling.

Regardless, I sent my mother there today with my two girls as I needed to get a lot of work done around the house. They couldn't stay long in the morning because of the baby's nap, but they thought they'd return after lunch and stay out of the sun and the heat. But when they tried to go back, there was a sign on the door, saying that in honour of the great weather, they'd decided to close at 3:30 pm today! Of course, there was no mention of this when my mum purchased two all-day passes. Honestly, we cheated - and obviously they did not shut because of the weather, as it's been sunny for ages. They could have at least been honest.

I completely agree with you. Last time I went I paid £9 for the 2 kids (one crawling baby). They were bored after 30 minutes as it was so small and I vowed I would never go again. Plus people sit in the cafe bit and don't keep an eye on their kids which causes out of control kids in the soft play area which is frustrating!

My nanny took my toddler and baby a couple of months ago and had a £5 note i'd given her.
My 3 year old had his shoes off, ready to go and she realised she was 80p short as she hadn't taken her purse out. On asking if she could drop the 80p by that night she was told no and refused entry.
Safe to say there were few tears - from the nanny and my son! They walked the half hour home in the rain all a little down beat.
I understand that some people may not be honest and return and that a business is not a charity but there was a rather full tip box on the counter which added insult to injury.
We haven't been back since.

I'm afraid I disagree with the other posters.

I am a big fan of adventure island. My 2 girls love both the storytime and the soft play area. We don't stay for more than 2 hours which is mostly because by then I've had enough climbing and they are getting worn out.

It has great coffee and the cakes always look amazing.
I think its a great local business for children and I'd like to support them on my high street!

But closing at 3:30 pm because it's sunny outside?? Surely that is not how you run a local business! Not when it's been sunny for ages, and you've taken money from customers charging them for an all-day pass.

I agree with the op, we don't go to Bertie & boo often. Been there with my boy last week. The manager said they were closing for party soon. I asked if we could just play for one hour. Then he sounded so couldn't careless told me it would cost me too much to play for 50 minutes. True. My boys were so upset. Will not bother to go back.

Bertie and Boo response>>

Apologises we closed early a few times during August. We had no customers from 1pm onwards due to the summer heat wave we are experiencing at the moment and it felt like the right call at the time.

We won't close early again and we will always make sure the website is updated regularly.

We appreciate your feedback and hope you will make your way over to us again soon.

Bertie and Boo team.
