Mouse Hole/house - recent experiences?

Postby oab » Wed Sep 03, 2014 9:38 am

We got a place for our son at Mouse Hole starting next year and I'd like to hear about other people's experiences there.

I have read many posts on NVN about the nursery, most of them very positive, however someone mentioned most of the team changing this year. Does anyone know more about this?

I'd also like to find out if the children leave the nursery starting to read/know the numbers etc? It's not one of our requirements, but i'd like to know what to expect.
From what i understand, this varies a lot between various nurseries (have heard from friends that children at Parkgate nursery don't learn to read whereas children at Newton prep nursery do).

I don't know Mouse Hole, so apologies if this is not a helpful reply for you, I just wanted to comment on Parkgate House, regarding children not learning to read in their nursery, as my son was in nursery 2 at PH last year (and is now continuing into Reception)- he learnt to read there and definitely wasn't alone in this, so I think perhaps it's more that the ages of children differ so much even in one class that they just start them when they are ready.

Hi there. My son was at Mouse Hole last year and moves up to Mouse House this year. We were really pleased with Mouse Hole and the teaching staff were lovely and did loads of great activities with them. My son loved it and made lots of friends. They tend to follow the lead of the child in teaching numbers/letters etc. If they are showing an interest, then they will certainly try to develop the skill. I suspect they may place more of an emphasis on that sort of thing at Mouse House.

It is certainly true that there was a large turnover of staff at the end of last term, and I'm also keen to see what (if any) impact it has on the quality of teaching and care that the kids receive. Hopefully none!

My only negative from last year is that the administration side of it can be a little disorganised at times, but overall have been very happy so far.

Feel free to PM if you have any specific questions.

I have friends at Mouse Hole and Mouse House and they are quite happy. However, I'd like to second the positive comments though about Parkgate Nursery. My daughter was also N2 and continued into Reception. She is already sounding out words, can write her entire alphabet, and by all means appears to be doing fine with phonics, reading and writing. I have nothing but positive things to say!

We have had 2 daughters at Mouse House and Mouse Hole and think it is very goood. The teachers are very attentive and caring, and both our daughters love going there. If you're lucky enough to get a place there, I would defintily receommed taking it.
