Men B Jab - anyone know anything about it?

Postby HighchairHostess » Fri Sep 05, 2014 9:03 pm

I hear from friends there's a new Meningitis jab out - although not through the the NHS, you have to pay privately for it. Wondered if anyone knows anything about it?? Got their child immunised already?? Will it be coming through the NHS? Eventually i guess.....

I have had both mine done. It is expensive about £100 a dose but after a brush with menegitis when my baby was 5 weeks cheap at the price!i had it done at my gp. It is 2 doses 2 months apart for my nearly 3 yr old and 2 does months apart plus a booster at 1 for my 7 month old. It will be on the nhs but as part of the under 1 yr vaccines and they won't do a catch up programme is what I was told.

Am thinking about this too. Baby jabs in London offers the vaccine and they are very good. Visited them when I needed a blood test for my 3 year old to check immunity to MMR.

There are two different brands available, one is apparently better than the other. I can't remember what it's called, but baby jabs offers the 'better' one.

It's is expensive though, you are looking at around £250 for both vaccines. Although, this is a very scary illness and money well spent.

The NHS are not offering a catch up to older children, those over 1 I believe. I think this should be routinely offered to all under 5's.

That's really helpful! Thank you both.
I can't believe how expensive it is!!
On another note - have you both given your kids the chicken pox jab? I hear again that's worth it but you have to pay privately for it??
