Postby mumofbabyandcrazydog » Mon Dec 20, 2010 12:44 pm

Hi there nappy-valley mums ~
does anyone know a good (or wonderful!) marriage counsellour in SW London? is it pre-christmas stress or marriage in crisis!?
would really appreciate any recommendations.
many thanks,

Before I moved to this area I found a great counsellor through The British Association for Counsellors http://www.bacp.co.uk. If you type in your postcode on 'find a therapist' they will provide you with a list of all the qualified counsellors in your area and most importantly their area of expertise and a small biog of them so you can talk to a few to find the one that suits you best. Good luck.

we did the course run by HTB in Kensington... it was so nice, it was i think 8 or 10 weeks, once a week, a romantic meal (table for 2 with a flower we could take home) from 7:30 and finish by 9:30pm a nice dinner and then teaching on different subjects, with time alone to discuss, there was no group discussion and it made for a nice atmosphere and even if we touched on prickly or even uncovered painful things, we couldnt stand and yell and each other etc. Its based in a church but we found it very unscary/not in our face and certainly not, well they prayed before eating and i think at the end, thats it.

Also, I think Emmanual Church in Wimbledon does one.

You can contact people at Hillsong who may know a pastor who can give some wise counsel...because Ive just found that you pay a lot of money for a therapist who could be reading off wikipedia...!:) Its just nice to have someone who genuinely cares about marriage and wants it to work for you. good luck!!

my husband and I used to go to a counsellor. All I can remember is her name's Elizabeth and she lives on Clapham Common Westside. Will see if I can find more of her details for you.

Here we go, we found her via Relate and she was very good at helping us work through our problems. That was about 4yrs ago and we're still married :D

St Mark's on Battersea Rise run the Marriage Course too. Check out the dates on their website www.stmarks-battersea.or.uk I think that the site also has a list of counsellors. The marriage course is amazing we did it after two years of being married to iron out any problems before they became huge. We are plannng on doing it again this year (after 8 years of being married) to keep it in our minds. All the best!
