Loft Conversion - recommendation on who is good to use?

Postby Anita Wilkinson » Wed Mar 26, 2014 7:24 am

Morning,

I was wondering if anyone could recommend a good builder or company to carry out a loft conversion? We are looking to do a loft conversion on our house in SW17.

We are currently speaking to Landmark Lofts who seem great but has anyone got any feedback on them?

All help is much appreciated.

Many thanks.

Anita

Dan Gladstone at Living Lofts. Has done 10 lofts in our Sw17 road. I was really happy and he still comes out 2 yrs later is I have any questions (e.g checking a small crack in wall is normal movement) which it was.

Hi

My experience of Landmark lofts is that they have a very slick marketing machine in Rosa Gold and do not follow through with their promises, we ended up in court. Having said that, my loft was done in 2011 and I think that they have now realised that the customer service is important so may be improving their standards in that department.

I would say go for a local recommended builder and don't pay extra overheads to a loft company.

Good Luck!

Hi Anita,

Maybe too late now - but this company is great with customer service and they have some examples of their work on this page on their website:

Hope this helps.

We were very happy with BP Lofts who did great work for us. We are now converting our basement with South Thames Contractors and they are incredible - so far over a month ahead of schedule, on budget and the most considerate builders I have ever come across!

I would recommend Dermarta who did our loft last autumn (albeit as part of a bigger project) - I recommended them here at the time:

Good luck!

Has anyone ever come across or used Dominic Payte? I am considering using them for our loft conversion and side return.

Thank you.

Hi Balham55,

We've come across Dominic Payte, we've never worked with them, but haven't heard any negative press.

For your loft conversion and side extension if you haven't already got plans drawn up and planning permission in place this is something we could assist with. It's always best to use architects who aren't in house to the building contractors so that there are no conflicts of interest. If you wanted to get some comparisons on prices we also work closely with a number of contractors we trust, so you may be able to get a more competitive price.

Alternatively if you have all this in place already we are more than happy to answer any queries you may have and offer our advice if needed.

Kind Regards
Jamie

Jamie

Many thanks. We have actually got an architect on board and have already got planning for the loft.

If you have any recommendations for builders then that would be appreciated?

Many thanks.

Doran Brothers based in Tooting are established and work with integrity

We didn't use them but have learnt a lot about these slick outfits which offer what seems like a good value quote and then add on lots after for tiling etc. Have sloppy workers that are sub contracted And they left a mess a general feeling that they couldn't care less. We used Simply Extend.

We are now using Doran Bros for building our patio and wish we had used them for our side return extension.

We are currently having our loft, and other things done in SW17 by these guys http://www.whitecubeconstruction.co.uk/ and they are fab! Bryn is the owner and also did our kitchen. If you want lots of attention to detail then they are great. PM me if you want any further details.
