This post might not make a lot of sense but it was originally following a post recruiting a nanny/aupair. There was some discussion about the wages/conditions which I have kept here but I separated out the original post as I didn't want the discussion to reduce the chance of the OP filling the position.

Why are you looking for an experienced au pair if you need a nanny?!
You want to pay 45 hours only £215?! This is ridiculous!

As a single parent (who gets no financial support from my sons father) as much as I would love to to be able to I cannot afford a nanny. I have done a lot of research into aupair+/mothers help and salary and feel that this is a fair salary as I know they will not have the same qualifications or experience as a nanny. I have seen adverts for people looking for similar for a lot less money.

Why are you taking into upon yourself to harass and harangue the OP?

There is nothing wrong with the proposition, and no one is being forced to apply so please stop.

My personal view is unless I have strong grounds to object to something then I only post when I have something positive to say. I don't see how making someone feel bad about their parenting choices is being positive in any way.

Good luck finding someone to work 45 hours for £215. I don't think you will find anybody experienced to look your baby. Will you be at home, because an au pair should not be left to look after a baby sole charge all day. You need to find an experienced childminder, nanny or nursery. Yes you will have to do your own cleaning and cooking.

a live in Nanny round here would normally look for say about £300-£350 p.w.

Two thirds of that amount for so many hours (with no tv or mobile phone!) sounds challenging. Best of luck with the search though.

I'm going to split the posts here so that the original advert stands alone and potential au pairs can apply without seeing the chain but then leave the posts concerning the wages in a separate thread.

I don't want to be in a position where we stifle discussion on important topics like pay and working conditions but I also don't want users individual recruitment posts used as a jumping off point for those discussions.

There is no set rule that a live in nanny must earn £350 a week. Indeed if the position is somewhere between au pair and nanny then its plausible the pay is somewhere between. All nannies need to start somewhere and why would you pay the same rate for an inexperienced nanny as you would for an experienced one?

I noted on another thread that it was mentioned that Norland probationers were available from the Norland nanny college's own agency for just over £17k a year (live in) and that would be someone who has completed the extensive Norland nanny training and done a work placement. So if that is a benchmark, then £215 (as mentioned in the original post) a week live-in for someone relatively inexperienced sounds plausible. Whether that person would be suitable to be left alone for long periods with a baby is another matter and a decision for the employer!
