Stop letting your children wee in the playground

Postby Northside23 » Sun Oct 26, 2014 11:02 am

Ok so maybe it's just me but here goes. Why do parents think it's ok for their children to wee inside the playground (not in a travel potty). Surely this and the dog free area are the only places in the park that should not be used as a toilet. Can't they just take the child outside the fenced off area!! It's crazy with little children crawling around and the likes that other parents allow their child to wee anywhere without respect for outer people.

Rant over, curious to hear others opinions.

I have never seen this. I find it quite incredible. I'm assuming that it's not just an accident (which do happen, especially when children get excited and forget). What playgrounds do you have in mind.

I've seen parents let their children wee by the big tree and also near the bins in the battersea rise playground on a regular basis. I just can't understand how they theming it's "ok".

I've seen this too and couldn't believe it! I know sometimes kids need to go without a great deal of warning but surely the parents can take them somewhere a bit more discreet/out of the way. With little ones around, including crawlers, it's just not on. You wouldn't let a dog wee in the playground so why a child!?

I have also seen parents allowing young children to do this on many occasions in the chivlary road playground, they seem to think it is ok to go as long as they are near the bin :o

Ok, I will hold my hand up and say I'm guilty. I do take my son away from the play area into a wooded part of the park if that makes it any better :? My son is too old to use a potty (he's four and just too big) there are public toilets in our park but they are awful. I would not want to use them, it would also mean taking my younger children in there. They are really yuk. But my son needs to wee a lot, very regularly. It has taken a great deal of hard work from both of us to get him to take responsibility for going to the toilet so if he tells me he needs to go in the park, which he inevitably does, I say well done for telling me and we go off away from the play area into the trees. It's not ideal, no I wouldn't expect an adult to do this, but he's a little boy who can't hold it in until we get home. He's doing his best as am I. It's only a wee for goodness sake and surely you would discourage smaller children from playing and crawling next to the bin anyway.

MummyMMMM When you say you go into the wooded area, do you mean the trees within the fenced off playground or picnic area? If you mean general trees in the larger park I think that's completely fair and don't see an issue with that. No I wouldn't let my kids crawl near the bins but I've seen young children going to the bins within the playground with rubbish and really wouldn't expect there to be urine around them. Like I said I only mean within the fenced off child areas.

That big tree in the train park everyone knows is the wee tree! Children cant hold it as long as adults and if your out for the day and they are too old for the potty what else are they going to do?! I would rather a wee area in each playground than children weeing everywhere. Its been the wee tree for years so just put your crawlers away from the tree...

I know the "wee tree" sarahroo is referring to in the playground on the west side and grimaced as my two and half year old son ran towards it the other day and basically face-planted the soil around the base of the tree when he tripped. It is a bit gross because it smells too. He's not a crawler at all but has experienced the "downside" to the assumed public lav in that playground. However, as he is not yet potty trained I shan't criticise those mums who do use it for that purpose as I haven't been through that "need to go" stage and I'm sure it presents difficulties particularly if you have other children in the playground that would need to be rounded up in order to leave the playground to wee on the main part of the common.

It seems there is a gap in the market for an emergency wee bottle suitable for toddlers to aim into! :D Would only work for boys though I guess...

Out of interest in what way do boys get too big for potties? I'd have thought a boy could wee into a potty standing up at any age?

Great recommendation tomsmum2008! I have just ordered 3! It is quite stressful dragging 3 children out of the Grandison road playground so that one can do a wee, as it is so close to the very busy road. Also great for car journeys!! Thanks!

Wee tree!! Really in a playground, I have 3 kids myself and I certainly wouldnt let them wee where other little children are playing. I am sorry but this just sounds like adults being lazy and not wanted to exit the playground.
How do you plan on teaching your children respect for others if you think it's ok to wee where there are other little children crawling/walking.

I am sure the majority of parents don't know it's the wee tree as every day I see kids playing there unknowing that someone let their kid wee there 2 minutes before.

Are there not enough other trees in the park that you really need a wee tree on the playground!!

I can't believe that there is anyone who uses the Grandison Road playground who doesn't realise the wee tree is is a wee tree! Little boys are constantly weeing up against it and it stinks of wee! Always has done. always will do. I'm quite surprised the tree is still alive actually!

What about people who do not use the playground on a regular basis, obviously they won't know about the so called wee tree. It really is amazing that people think it is ok to let there children wee where others who are unaware may let there children play. I'm glad I have read this post I now know which playground to avoid!
