HELP Going Insane - 3 nappies a night?!?!?

Postby Pod » Wed Oct 29, 2014 10:23 am

I hope someone somewhere in NV can offer some help - sleep deprivation is torture at the best of times but when it's not related to teething illness or developmental milestones etc - but a wet leaking nappy it's ridiculous!
We use cloth nappies during the day with no issues but night time a different story - Naty were working until a month been trying Boots, Pampers Dry and Activ Fit - to no avail - my daughter is 15mths 9kg has only 180-200ml milk at 6pm 20ml water before bed and I am finding I have to change her nappy 2-3times a night because she sleeps on her front with her bottom in the air - so gravity not helping with the fluid flow - by 11.30pm she's wet through to her PJ's and even into her sleeping bag - and wakes again with the same issue about 3am - it's ridiculous and I'm tearing my hair out - the nappy is full at the front and leaking onto her tummy up to her arm pits and yet the back half of the nappy is bone dry and not even used?!?!
Any help please?

How infuriating! Have you tried putting the nappy on backwards ?!

Not sure if this helps...but stopped using Naty at night quite early on (before 6 months) as they weren't holding the liquid...we switched to pampers baby dry size 4 and these are still ok for my son at 18m/10kgs (he also sleeps on his front). Perhaps also try a bigger size of the pampers baby dry?

Whenever we've had leaking nappies at night I've always taken that as a sign that we need to go up a size. Pampers Baby Dry should be able to hold all the wee for 12 hours without leaking or needing a change. Also you could try putting nappy liners from Amazon in the front part of the nappy to help soak up any excess or try putting on two nappies (if it's not too uncomfortable for your daughter).

Thank you everyone for your responses, an Nct friend donated us some size 5 pampers to trial b4 buying. It's huge but hoping it will hold up, failing that I'm going with Bubs idea of putting it on backwards as definitely more mileage in the length of nappy as tonight it was halfway up her back! Might also consider adding an extra liner inside but that would be wet against her skin - I'll admit I considered digging out some left over maternity pads to wrap round her I got so desperate! Let you know how the next few nights go, thank you NVN!!!

At 15 months she is a bit little but you could try 'lifting' I.e. sitting her on a potty to wee. She is unlikely to wake up, but I don't know if she will wee if she isn't potty trained yet. I was amazed how my son at about 20 months when we first started potty training was able to in his sleep, especially if you do it at the time she usually wees...

Have you tried the Pampers baby dry in the + size, as well as them making size 3, 4, 5 et. they make 3+, 4+ and 5+, the + means that they have an additional layer of absorbency. I always used the normal size 3 in the day and a 3+ at night etc, in each size grouping. I had originally thought that the + suffix meant that it was a half size and then I looked it up on the Pampers website and it explained about the additional layer!

Hi - we had a similar problem as my son has too much milk!! he's a big boy (aged 2) and we have found Essential Waitrose ones to be the best! I have tried them all - pampers baby dry, etc etc and honestly these are fab! 3 kids in and i wish i'd found them earlier. hope that helps!

I can relate to this as it happens to me sometimes. I would recommend using Pampers Baby Dry size 4+ or Active in the same size. Active has a little bit more room, but Dry is equally fine. I would not go bigger as this may cause more problems. My boy also sleeps on his tummy most of the time. For me, putting the nappy on really well does the trick. It usually leeks upwards (just as you described) when it's not been put on optimally. Another common reason for my boy's nappy leaking is the cold. The cold stimulates the bladder and there is a limit to how much a nappy can take. I prefer using Active 4+ in the night as they are a bit roomier and therefore easier to put on. I hope you find a solution and get some sleep! Keep us posted. :D

Hi everyone!
Well guess what - no leaks and only one wake at 2am I checked pjs all was dry so put her back with some water but she wouldn't settle - 60ml milk and she slept until 7am. The pampers 5+ that my Nct friend had given us worked a treat and it was like a cannonball by 7am but boy am I relieved to have found something that seems to work - hurrah!
And I never realised the + meant extra absorbency , learn something new everyday. I wonder if that's the same for Naty + aswell?
As a cloth nappy by day mum I'm not keen on the landfill of disposables but given my blissful night I think I might have to bite the bullet for a while and stick with what's giving us all some peace
Thank you everyone!!! Xxx

Console yourself that you're saving the energy and water from washing the bed sheets every day!

Given wansdworth's waste is incinerated don't beat yourself up about non degradable. Fewer used are probably as Eco friendly as more biodegradable ones!

By 15 months I was doing at least 1/3- 1/2 of bedtime milk at tea time so that they wee alot of it before the night nappy goes on. Do go up a nappy size and increase vest size. Also try an always ultra along the back of the nappy.
My mum cloth bummed both me and her brother day and night as it was the 70s and she swore by a 'dream wee' around 10pm with both of us to minimise a soaking Terry nappy in the night and have us sleep through!
You could just change the nappy then - I found that at that time they are in a pretty deep sleep so you can move them around a bit without causing too much disturbance.
I use cloth a night now we are near potty training but when I did use disposables at night I found Tesco ultra dry much better than pampers
Good luck! I remember meeting you when you were pregnant! x
