New Health food product for kids

Postby lovehellosunshine » Thu Oct 30, 2014 2:10 pm

Hi,
Im in process of creating a new tasty health product for kids. I would like to know where there is a gap and where I can help parents the most.

Choices are between

*a range of spreads (think nutella, but actually good for you) along with other flavours like mango and passionfruit, strawberry, vanilla and raspberry. Whilst these all sound 'sweet' and full of sugar, They are filled with nothing but goodness from coconuts, pure fruits and a tiny amount of raw honey. Will be gluten free, nut free, dairy free, soya free, no agave syrup.

OR

* healthy on the go or after school kids snacks. No empty calories here. Pure goodness, protein and healthy fats.

OR

* range of chocolates that you don't mind at all if your kids eat! Will actually be beneficial to their health. Gluten free, nut free, dairy free, no artificial sweeteners, soya free, no Agave syrup.

Your thoughts will be greatly appreciated

Lauren

Number 2, hands down.

There are lots of sweet things out there (and fruit sugars/honey are still sugar!) but relatively few savoury snacks and hardly anything with protein/good fats.

What do you have in mind for number 2. Something made with nuts? cheese?

Definitely after school snacks ( and lunch box snacks ) would be a winner. This is a very difficult one. Mainly things tend to be sweet rather than savoury. Also difficult with having to avoid nuts.

So true! Most handy snacks are filled with sugar.

Trying to create a savoury snacks kids will enjoy just as much! a real task since the evil sugar will always win!

Just a side question here - do you think it is good to reward children with a treat? I'm concerned that by rewarding I am training them to become reliant on rewards for their actions instead of creating a sense of self worth regardless of their achievements?

In response to your question - I'd love a healthy snack option that does not contain sugar. Sugar seems to be in everything and it scares me because it has so many negatives to it; worse than fat.

where does it say it is a reward?
all kids have a snack after school because they are "actually" hungry after a long day learning and moving around.

Sorry, my fault - it doesn't suggest it is a reward in your posts - I was asking a question separately but your response is a valid point. My concern about snacks is that they are full of sugar - labelled fat free, but full of sugar.

What snacks do you suggest?

totally agree that snacks are branded as "healthy" and as containing fruit when in truth they are full of sugar but when I give my daughter a snack after school it is not a reward but something to eat cos she is hungry.

would be interesting to know what the "healthy on the go or after school kids snacks. No empty calories here. Pure goodness, protein and healthy fats." would be
