Charity work possibilities with my child?

Postby justalocal » Mon Nov 10, 2014 9:36 pm

Hi all,

I have a nine year old daughter, and she and I would like to do some voluntary charity work together. I'm finding it difficult to find something that allows children to do this.

Anybody got any clues where to look?

Thanks

My son (2yrs) and I visit a wonderful, elderly housebound person (we see the same lady each week) for a chat and a cuppa. We were specifically matched by the charity and it's something i'd wanted to do for ages. We've been visiting for over a year now and are firm friends with the lovely lady who enjoys the company, watching a youngster play and simply having someone to chat to. We do this via the Wimbledon Guilds befriending scheme but there are no doubt other similar things local to you. I'm sure an elderly person would love hearing about your daughters activities, watching her sing/dance/draw/sewing etc or just chatting to you both.

Just an idea - my son and I enjoy it very much too :-)

Great idea above!

I'd try contacting the Wandsworth Foodbank. They often do collections at the weekends, which are fun for older children to be involved with.

They have two regular Foodbank sessions on the weekend, too. http://wandsworth.foodbank.org.uk

Hello!

It might be just a one off but we are organising a big one day free charity event for May 2015 - by we I mean about 20 local businesses and Mumsnet Merton and Wandsworth and we would love you to be part of it if you like. It will be for the local community - for parents and parents to bes.
Let me know what you think - even if it might not e your cup of tea:)

Thanks, Kate
