Hey there.
My son was on a bike without stabilisers from the age of 3 too. Two things are important:
Pedal brakes. They are essential for safety. In Scandinavia, where I am from, you wouldn't dream of getting a bike without pedal brakes for a child under the age of 10. Their hands aren't strong enough to safely operated the handbrakes and the response time is slower. From my research there are two brands, which do pedal brakes; Isla bikes and specialized. Getting the right size. If it's too big, it might feel too scary and put them off. We got a 12 inches first and within 9 months had to upgrade but feel convinced that the bigger one from the word go would have scared him.
