Playground at the end of Gtrandison road

Postby newbie_38 » Sat Dec 06, 2014 6:24 pm

Does anyone know what the council is doing with the refurbishment work of the playground of Grandison road?
It's now been more than a month that it's closed but it doesn't seem that the work has even started.
What's the point of closing it?

there was a previous post reg the playground. Some parents were not happy with the state of the playground, so council closed to fix it but it will take some time, I guess it could be until summer. I am not so happy as I have two kids and we love the playgrond and mix with the children. Now we are all alone playing in the grass..... I just hope they will open soon.

I have just heard back from the council. Works should be starting this Friday so fingers crossed, it should all be done before the New Year!

Update from council...

The works were due to start on Friday 12 December. However due to wet weather conditions the works have been delayed and I am now awaiting another date.

Thank you to Councillor Dawson for mailing through the update.

Hi Julian
Sorry for not replying earlier.

The note was headed Lambeth Council’s Parks Department so I guess Lambeth... :-)

brilliant - thanks!

On a separate note, how is the tennis hut coming along?

I hear from Mr NVN that it's all back to normal with the lights...

They rigged a cable from the pavilion to temporary hut. So the lights are back on. No work on the actual pavilion yet but that will be down to the insurers to assess etc.

Here's the official response from a very helpful lady at Lambeth Council -

Thank you for your query relating to the closure of the Battersea Rise Playground at Clapham Common. Following a number of complaints relating to children slipping and falling in the playground, we had to close this facility in order to carry out necessary inspections and repairs. We completed our inspections and have commissioned the repairs required to make the playground safe again.

The rescheduled start date is Saturday 20th December 2014

We must apologise for the playground not being available for use, but as a responsible authority we often need to take difficult (and sometimes unpopular) decisions. However, in this case this has been to safeguard the welfare and safety of children and their parents/guardians; we would be in breach of our duty of care if we were to leave a playground open when we were aware that equipment or surfaces were unsafe. Whilst the playground is closed and works to repair it are under way, the Windmill Drive Playground remains fully open and under regular inspection, so that play is still freely available to children.

If you have any I further questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Regards

I can accept a duty of care and am grateful that the authority is responsible but at this rate it will have taken two months to fix what? A slippery patch? That's pretty pathetic.
