Hoover - Dyson, Henry or Miele

Postby KateHelloMums » Sun Dec 07, 2014 9:19 pm

Now that we are finally approaching a neverending house renovation project my beloved MIL is giving us a Hoover for Xmas (would much prefer a holiday or some wine but oh well)
So what do you think is the best buy? The good old Henry or the fashionable Dyson or the pricey but quality Miele?
We currently have a Henry and a Dyson and Henry worked better - but I'm open to suggestions!
Thanks ladies:)

I have also had a Dyson and we now have a Henry. The Henry works much better. It also has the benefit of just being able to throw away the bag rather than needing to be cleaned. The Dyson uprights are better than the cyclinders (I had a cylinder). Allegedly, Miele are best (at least according to Which tests), but I have no personal experience of their vacuum cleaners (although we have other Miele appliances which are great).

Thanks Gruffali dad - I think Henry is a very reliable option!

We've had our Miele for just over a year now and it's great. It's powerful but quiet at the same time. It came with a few different brushes, very useful. Replacing bags is easy and hassle-free. Never had Dyson or Henry but our cleaner says she prefers our Miele over her Henry.

I've been through x2 cylinder Dysons & 1 upright! I now have a Miele and it's definitely superior!!

Miele all the way! Very good and quiet. Lasts for years and years.

We got ours after our cleaner refused to use our Dyson (which came with the house we were in..we didn't buy it)... she said she wanted a Miele. She complained about the Dyson.... then my mom visited who also owns a Miele and she complained non stop about using the Dyson.

So we got a Miele! And it has been brilliant...quiet, powerful and not too heavy.
We have moved abroad and I couldn't take it with us but will be buying a Miele again no questions asked.

We've got a Miele Cat & Dog (despite no pets) after previously having had a Dyson. It's excellent for us and I'll definitely buy another one in the future.

Miele Cat & Dog every time, have tried others, always go back to a Miele, but they don't like building dust! Henry hoover is the only one which copes with builders dust and rubble.

Henry's are good for Victorian houses as long hoses reach all the way up the stairs. Plus they are easy and cheap to fix if anything bits need replacing. They can also survive children climbing on them, chucking them down stairs and dragging them around by the hose.

Well there is an old saying;

"Buy Cheap Buy Twice" - or somesuch.

I have had Hoovers, Electrolux, Dyson and others over the years but Miele is by far the most reliable.

I'm so impressed with them I have replaced my washing machine with a Miele model - it just oozes quality (but of course is nearly 50% more than a Bosch equivalent.

It seems to me that Miele builds up to a quality whereas all other makers build down to a price!

We have a Henry for the builders and it does an excellent job, but once our new carpets go down it will be good to have a new one.
Funny how the media raves about Dyson - but I guess it might be yet another invention where they forgot about practicality.
Miele seems like an overall winner though and to be honest Miele washing machines and tumble dryers are pretty amazing too, so I think we will go with Miele. But! There is so many of them, so now the question is:
Which Miele Vacuum? Any thoughts please?
Ecoline or Cat&Dog? or something else perhaps?
Thank you all for your input!

We got through 2 x Miele's in 5 years which is probably unlucky. I then bought a cheap Henry and it is brilliant. Equally as good as the Miele. They are so robust and simple machines. Highly recommended

I also owned the 'Dog and Cat' model from John Lewis - even though I had no pets!
