I thought that the readers of NVN might be interested to hear about a new bilingual (French/English) children’s book, Elodie and the Pirates / Elodie et les Pirates, which is written by a local mum and set on Tooting Common.
This book is aimed at bilingual and non-bilingual children alike, and includes a free audio book along with a parents’ and teachers’ guide to help get the most out of the book.
Bilingual children will get a chance to practise their weaker language, including reading and writing it.
Non-bilingual children will love learning French through the medium of story-telling and the accompanying audio book.
This story is the first in a series called The Adventures of Elodie / Les Aventures d’Elodie, which follow a half English/half French girl, Elodie, who lives in London and goes on adventures with her two English friends after school every day.
Described as a cross between Mr Ben and the Famous Five, the Elodie stories have the following underlying messages:
- Parents: let children go outdoors to play, like we did when we were kids
- Children: put down the electronic devices and play outdoors with your friends, using your imagination and your environment
- Girls: you can be/do the same as boys, whether it's climbing trees or fighting pirates
A paperback and a Kindle version of the book are now available on Amazon: http://amzn.to/1493INF.
If your children like this Elodie story, don’t hesitate to contact me via the Elodie website (http://www.elodiepublications.com) to request a time/place for a future Elodie book, so far the requests I have received include stories about pirates, dinosaurs, World War II (during an air raid) and Ancient Egypt.
Thanks for reading and happy adventuring
