Restaurant, The Manor

Postby tigerlily » Tue Jan 13, 2015 11:01 pm

Has anyone been to The Manor, on Clapham Manor Street? It's relatively new I think, used to be El Rincon Latino. Had a good write up at the weekend and I wondered if any of you had tried it.

Yes. Amazing! Run by same people as the Dairy which is also great. Takes a whole to get a table but well worth it!

My husband and I went there last Saturday for lunch. We thought the food was amazing and we def recommend it. I strongly advise you go for the tasting menu as then you get a lovely selection of everything.
Only thing letting it down is the decor. I find the whole use of miss matched furniture and old desks for tables a bit scruffy and what were they thinking when they did the bathrooms?!?! Nothing wrong with linen table cloths!!
Oh dear! I'm obvs getting old!
Hope you enjoy it!

My husband and I went recently and we were impressed. Great value for some clever food. Some dishes didn't quite work for us, others we were really impressed by. We didn't do the tasting menu (surprisingly for us, as we usually do) and instead opted for lots of plates to share as there were some things on the main menu I really wanted to try.

I loved the whole move to fermented type foods - not overly so, but evident in places. Even the bread and butter was very cool, and delicious!

Best was the dessert bar - you can move to the kitchen area and sit there foir dessert, which means you get to see your dessert prepared (the Chef was lovely, chatty, and previously at Fera at Claridges!). Think an episode of Masterchef, in front of your eyes. I loved it. Clever too, as they get to use your table for the next groups coming in - fine by us.

Great local addition, reasonably priced for what it is. I was slightly confused as to why all staff kept urging us to go to The Dairy too, that was perhaps a little overkill - one mention would have been enough!

I absolutely love this place. So good. I agree that the loos are awful (they have put up a sign apologising and saying that they ran out of money), but I love the décor otherwise. Very cool.

Thanks for the feedback everyone.
Is it easy to book a table, or do they get booked up well in advance?

I agree with Bubs - some dishes worked for us, others didn't. We also went for the tapas when we'd usually go tasting menu. I was disappointed that they didn't have accompanying wines with the tasting menu. The service was great. You even get water at the bar with your drinks. I would definitely recommend as it's an enjoyable experience. It seems that they are a bit confused as to what they want to achieve though, but worth a visit.

We went shortly after it opened, so far it seems easier to get a table at the Manor than their other restaurant The Dairy..but the restaurant does seem bigger. We ordered the tapas style dishes rather than the tasting menu as their were a lot of dishes that we wanted to try that were not on the tasting menu. My husband loved their special butter and we had to have a few servings of that bread they do.
