puppy

Postby izzye789 » Mon Jan 05, 2015 10:07 pm

back in October 2014 I adopted a puppy from dogs home Windsor.he was just 11 weeks old we paid £170 for him but was told he had slight health issues we went with this knowing about his problem.a little while after he got unwell and we took him to the dogs home Battersea for treatment for stomach problems they treated him. several weeks later it happened again we ask for blood test they refused he got better.then at xmas eve he became unwell again we ask them to treat him at Windsor and Battersea because we couldn't afford the high exspence of the vets.they said no we can only adoped him back and sell him to people that can afford to pay for treatment.we tried the blue cross but because we are not claiming benefits they couldn't help.we had no choice but take him to Battersea were he could be treated my children are devastated. they treated him twice for free then took him back because we couldn't afford vet bills.they told us at the beginning they would always treat him now they have taken him back we trained him to been clean in the house and my children love him .I am trying to get in touch with paul o.grady has he does for the love of dogs at Battersea dogs home but had no luck on how to do it can anyone help to get in touch with him.thank you for reading this hope you can help.diane

Sorry to hear your puppy is not well, what a shame at such a young age. To be honest, if the dogs home made you fully aware that the puppy was encountering health problems at the time you adopted it and you made the decision to take it on anyway, I don't think there is very much to do. Pets are a massive responsibility and even if the puppy had been in the best of health to begin with, chances are that over the years it would have needed some kind of veterinary treatment which can work out massively expensive depending on what is required. All I can suggest (my mum works for the RSPCA) in order to be completely kind to the puppy (bearing in mind it may be suffering whilst waiting to be treated by a vet) is that you take it back to the animal shelter to be rehomed by someone who has the funds to cover all costs. I'm sure this will be very upsetting but unfortunately charities like Battersea Dogs Home can't continue to keep providing free care as they have thousands of dogs in their care and not enough funding. I wish you lots of luck!

That's very sad for the puppy, it sounds like he's actually very ill and shouldn't be adopted again. They should have talked through options with you. Moving homes is traumatic for dogs, especially if he's ill. It also sounds like he's sicker than they initially thought.

I've adopted a couple of dogs from Battersea, and while they come with a few weeks free insurance and a promise to treat any conditions they've picked up while in kennels for free, they make it VERY clear that owning a dog is expensive, and you should factor in the cost of insurance or vets bills.

I'm sorry your puppy is ill, but it sounds like you didn't do your research before getting it.
