I live next to an 85 year old lady.... she has no family, and seemingly no friends either ... i haven't seen her for about 5 days, and it's been very quiet next door, no lights on etc... worried something may have happened to her?? Should i call the police? I don't have her phone number or a key! My husband thinks i'm being over dramatic, but i keep thinking what happens if she's had a fall and can't get up... or even worse??

I would call the police to be on the safe side and to ease your worry. If you havent seen her for 5 days or seen any movement/lights on at the house, definitely call the police.

My elderly mother lives on her own & relies on the support of her neighbours. Maybe try knocking on door or ask neighbour on other side. But definitely do something, she could have fallen and not be able to get to the phone to call for help. If it was my mother, I'd really appreciate a neighbour taking the time to check on her.

Thanks so much for your advice and concern. I managed to get hold of another elderly neighbour ... my neighbour had had a fall a couple of days before I sent my post.. she'd been getting off the bus and slipped - hit her head and been a bit confused, plus a bit of blood... anyway, she'd been taken to hospital... was fine but they were keeping her in as there's no one at home for her.
Anyway, she's back now and seems ok. She said she'll give me a key and I told her neighbour to keep me in the know in future!! Would have saved a lot of worry... but just glad she's ok / on the mend.
