Second Steps Nursery

Postby suzieking » Tue Feb 17, 2015 1:47 pm

Hi,

I wondered if anyone has had any experience with Second Steps Nursery? If so, how would you rate them?

I'm looking at nurseries for my 1 year old son and wondered if they were any good.

Any comments good or bad are welcome!!!

Thanks

Suzie

Hi there,

My 3 (nearly 4) year old daughter has gone there since 1 years old. Now my little boy goes too.

I can't really fault them. The staff are all really lovely. There have only been about 3 changes of staff in the last 3 years and there has never been anyone there I've felt wasn't up to scratch. And if you have any concerns they are very responsive.

The outside space is small but they get access to it twice per day. They do trips and always keep them busy.

My little girl has made some lovely friends too. All my neighbours use it and we're all very happy!

It's a personal decision so what works for some may not work for all but my experience as a working mum has been very positive.

My daughter has been at the nursery for over a year and really loves it. The staff genuinely seem to care about the children and are very friendly and approachable. They are also very accommodating if you need to use them outside your normal days.

The one issue I have had is with the owner who can be quite slow and at times difficult to deal with, but as a parent you don't deal with her on a daily basis.

Overall, I'm really happy with second steps.

Our daughter has been there for 2.5 years (from 18mo) and we are very happy with it. The teachers are lovely, they clearly spend a lot of time (in preschool, particularly) teaching them things and gently getting them ready for "real school". They do brilliant trips and swimming, the latter a big plus for us and our daughter has learned to swim because of it. They've been very very responsible re my daughter's severe food allergies. I get along well with the owner and the second in charge. They have gotten much more responsive in the last year or so, a big improvement.

Both of my children went there. They loved it as did we.
The staff are great and the owner has a wealth of child care qualifications and most importantly experience. She really knows children as do many of the others staff some of whom have been there for about 20 years (even though they're young).
Very caring, loving environment. I echo the comments of others about good trips and that it's great that they take the children swimming.
They have also helped us out last minute when things have gone wrong with childcare.

I recommend it 100%!
